October guest designer and texture paste

Hi,
Time to admire our Guest Designer Zuzu's work again today. This is such an amazing project, I can't wait to read what you think about it..
Lots of colours, texture and techniques here, so I'll let Zuzu tell you all about it...

I sprayed the box using Cosmic shimmer mica mists, then stamped my Katzelkraft Paris images on to tissue paper and attached the tissue to the box with PVA glue.
TIP: If the mica mist is still wet, it will seep through to the tissue and take on the colour of the rest of the box.
I then used a Blending Tool to add touches of Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Then I added patches of texture paste and while it was wet I sprinkled Blending Solution and Alcohol Inks over it.  I used Stream and Caramel.
Still working while it was wet, I added some gold Cosmic Shimmer Ultra thick Crystal and heated with a heat tool.
I attached the ornate book plate to centre of lid and a chain to dangle Paris themed charms from to the side of box.
I then added touches of Rub'n'buff in gold

This concludes our embossing paste week.
We hope we enjoyed it
See you tomorrow

  1. This is so impressive and very luxurious! I am really interested in the techniques you have used. Can I ask what the advantage of working on wet medium, rather than letting everything dry first is please? TFS!

    Hi Anne...
the reason I work with the texture paste still wet is for a few reasons...

    1) the alcohol ink colour spreads and covers the paste much better while wet (in fact i use a fair bit of blending solution to make sure the ink spreads and isnt just sitting in dark patches.

    2) the embossing crystals stick nicely to it and gets in to the cracks, there is no good way of getting in to the cracks once the paste is hard and dry.

    3) this is the MOST important reason...
once my colour is on and I have added the embossing powder or crystals I heat with the heat gun. I REALLY heat it. So you start to see the texture paste bubble and rise. this develops the texture and gives interesting patches.. sometimes it pops and burst so the white shows through from underneath.

waiting on it to dry first then adding ink just leaves you with dark blobs of ink that dont spread, leaves you with trying to work out how to get the paste wet enough to attach the embossing powder and doesnt give you the chance to heat it and make the fab bubbles... :)

The reason I like the mica spray to be still a little wet when i attach the stamped image on the tissue is as stated, the tissue takes on the colour of your box and it becomes hard to tell there is tissue there. it actually even takes on the grain of the wood.

hope this helps... but i would encourage you to do it your own way and experiment.

  5. It looks stunning and I love the innovative way you used the paste. I can think of a standard, household alternative, though.... thanks for the inspiration.
