Gift week: day three

Hi,
Today we are focusing on "gifts for him"... Not the easiest thing to do for many whilst others are more comfortable making grungy, masculine projects.
Neil and Chris have made a few samples for you which I hope you will enjoy....

Small trinket boxes (Great for holding cufflinks etc)

************
Chris made a couple of bookmarks and a keyring

The Dream bookmark is made from grunge paper which was die cut with the Tim Holtz movers and shapers dream die and then painted with Snowcap paint. Alcohol inks were dabbed over the paint which gives the polished stone/agate effect and the edges and around the cut out words were highlighted with gold rub n buff. The hole at the top was punched with a Crop-a-dile, ribbon was threaded through and tied and the corners were rounded with a corner rounder punch.

For the Dad bookmark again I cut the shape from Grunge Paper and embossed with the texture fades embossing folder and then painted with the Little Black Dress paint and highlighted with gold Rub 'n buff. At the top I pierced holes to sew the cord through and to decorate I cut the letters and the gears from more Grunge Paper and painted in black. After attached the letters and gears I highlighted 'Dad' with Rub 'n Buff and the gears with a layer of glossy accents.

The key ring is made by cutting the tag with the tag and bookplates die from white shrink plastic and inking with Red Pepper, Gold and Hazlenut alcohol ink after shrinking with a heat gun. I did the same for the mini padlock and key, highlighted everything with gold Rub 'n Buff, added the key ring and padlock with Glossy Accents and attached the key ring chain.

Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers: Dream, Tag and Bookplates dies, Mini Padlock and Key, Mini Gears, base tray, Vintage Market strip die
Fresco Finish paint Snowcap, Little Black Dress
Tim Holtz texture fades embossing folder Bingo and Patchwork
Alcohol inks in Red Pepper, Gold, Cool Peri, Willow
Alcohol ink blending solution
Alcohol ink applicator
needle and thin cord

Here we are for today.
What did you think of these projects? Have they inspired you to make gifts for the Mr in your life?
Can't wait to hear from you.

See you tomorrow

Gift week: day two

hello :)

How are you today? Ready for day two?
If I tell you fabric... spray inks... unusual projects... you tell me..... GIO of course... I'm such a fan of her work, she never ceases to amaze me.
Gio has made some really cool gifts using our fabric bags, and she even made a pillow!!!!
And as if that was not enough, you even have a VIDEO to show you how to make the first bag. And you can even brush up your Italian too LOL. (I personally love Italian and really enjoy her videos... thank you Gio)

Over to you dear Gio... How did you alter your bags and pillow?

Andiamo!
BAG ONE VIDEO

Here's the details of the gorgeous bag...

Here's a second bag...

Do you want to know how she made this bag too?
Here's the step by step.... Gio is REALLY spoiling you for Christmas !!!!

I painted the fabric shopping bag with Fresco Finish paint 'Orchid'. I painted a square of white calico with Fresco Finish paint 'Haystack'. I stamped a tissue paper with Impression Obsession 'Flourishes' and Katzelkraft 'Sandglass' plate with Fresco Finish paint 'Orchid'.

I tore it, and glued the pieces with Claudine hellmuth Multi medium Matte to the fabric, making sure to put the gel medium on the fabric and over the tissue paper.

I added some details with acrylic paint and a Crafter Workshop stencil.

I traced the heart out with a Viva Decor Copper dimensional paint. I sewn the fabric square to the bag.

To make the buttons for the bags and the pillow I cut a circle with a bottle cap from Viva Pardo Jewellery Clay copper and stamped with Impression Obsession 'Flourishes'. Before drying them with the heat gun I covered them with Ranger Perfect Pearls.

I made the two tags from fabric leftovers, glued to a piece of cardstock with Claudine Hellmuth Multi medium matte, stamped with Katzelkraft 'Cage and Chandelier' and 'Sandglass' plate.

And here's the lovely pillow

Material used for these projects:

Fresco Finish paint 'Orchid'
Fresco Finish paint 'Guacamole'
Fresco Finish paint 'Haystack'
PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints: 'Lilac'
Katzelcraft 'Cage and Chandelier' and 'Sandglass'
Claudine hellmuth Multimedium matte

Gift week: day one

hello everyone,
It feels weird to think that I am not going to talk about calendars any more...

For 2012, we already have quite a few things planned... Actually, believe it or not, we have over 3 months planned. With new features, new projects, lots of tutorials, competitions and challenges and of course blog candies....
With all the new followers now, we have to keep up the good work and make this blog a true source of inspiration. Which means tons of homework for our amazing DT (and they say they miss me when I'm away on vacation... yeah right ... LOL).

Back in December (well... nearly...), we thought about a Christmas cards week, but hopefully (unless you are like me), your cards are made and sent by now... but how about gifts? It's not too late for a handmade gift for someone you love... and it is always so appreciated.
And I tell you, the DT has been busy. They sent me all their projects when I was away, and it was jaw drop time when I got back!! They really want to finish the year with a bang!

So this week is all about gifts... for him... for her... for little ones... for teenagers.... and even jewellery
Ready for it?

We'll start off with
GIFTS for the KIDDOS...
It's not something we often do on this blog... projects/cards for children... maybe we should add this to the 2012 planning... (I can hear the DT from here... "she's going to add to the planning again" lol).

Started with Gay and two lovely boxes. The first one could be for a small child (or an adult alike.. I would love this box, wouldn't you?), and the second could be for a teenager even. Either way, they are gorgeous and here's how Gay made them...

I painted all the outside faces of the box with gesso, let it dry thoroughly then stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder. Santa was coloured with Copics and then I glittered his beard, sadly the light is not reflecting it:{ It's quite sparkly in real life! The Ornate plate was adhered with Pinflair glue gel.

Gay used:
(Claudine Helmuth's) gesso.
Mini wooden triangular box (set of two, one inside the other)
Tim Holtz, Idea-ology, ornate plates
Impression Obsession Santa stamp H7648
Crafty Secrets, Sweet Kids (snowflake)
Copics to colour
Viva Decor Inca Gold, paint Lava red 915 and Light gold 909

This box was painted white with gesso then I changed my mind and painted it this fabulous shade of red, it's a really rich deep red. The white embossing paste is perfect as it's so opaque, nothing shows through especially when covered in glitter after you take the brass stencil off! You still can't see the sparkle, this is really glittery !!

Material used
 gesso
Americana Acrylic Paint, Tuscan red
Dreamweaver Stencil LL547 Single Bare Tree
Dreamweaver stencil LL468 Vertical Ornaments

Next up is Michelle, with this lovely Snowman Soup sweets bag. I'm really tempted to make one for my daughter, she will love that !!
Here's how Michelle made it...

Use a fairly heavy card cut a 6x6" tent card and another piece of card measuring 6" x 4"
Score the smaller piece of card at 1" intervals and fold as shown.

Punch a hole or cut a slit to fit the ribbon you are using at the top centre of the card, through both front and back.
Draw lines from corner to corner on the inside of the card and position the circular nestie at the centre.
Hold in place with low tack tape and cut the circle with your die cutting machine.

Cut another piece of card 5 3/4" x 5 3/4". Place in the snowflake embossing folder so that the embossing is centred on the card.
Cut the circle with the Nestabilities die, positioning as before.
Either emboss around the nestie with an embossing mat or using a ball tool.

Stamp out the Gorjuss snowman and fox with a Memento ink pad.
Colouring a white object can be very tricky but here's an easy way to get the shading looking something like.
Colour a fairly fine area around the snowman using a pale grey colour ( I used Promarker cool grey 2) then immediately soften the line of grey with the promarker blender using very small circular movements with the pen. Redefine the shadow at the back of the snowman and blend again.

Whilst blender is still moist on the card colour a line of pale ivory over the edge of the grey and blend until there are no distinguishable lines

Here's a close up of our snowman's head to give you a better idea of the blending achievable.

Using DS tape stick the folded card to the bottom, inside of the 6 x 6 card with the valley in the centre of the card as shown

Cut out the snowman and fox and stick it to one side of the circle on the embossed card. Hide the cut edge with a ribbon across the card.
Cut a piece of acetate slightly smaller than the embossed card and adhere with DS tape to the back of the card.

Stamp some Christmas trees on a piece of card 5" x 5" and pop it inside the card with a sachet of drinking chocolate and some marshmallows in a 5 x 5 cellophane bag. Pop a ribbon through the slits in the card.

Stick the image onto the front of your card, lining up the die cut circles and decorate as desired. Tie a candy stick into the bow with a bell.

So what do you think? Isn't this the cutest project ever?
If you give it a go, we would love to see... Either send us a picture (if you don't have a blog) or pop in on your blog and link in a message below.

Can't wait to read what you think...

See you tomorrow with more gifts ideas

Calendar challenge Grande Finale

So here we are... our 12 calendar weeks are over. How much fun has this been?
I hope you have enjoyed making your calendars as much as we have enjoyed visiting your blog and seeing them all.

This post is for those of you who have made the TWELVE calendars/challenges, all of them... either 12 pages, or 12 individual calendars.
All you have to do now is to take a picture of the finished project (or the 12 single calendars) and post about it on your blog. Once this is done, please link to that post on the little froggy below so we can go and have a look.

The DT members, Sandy and myself will then visit your blogs and vote to choose one winner who will receive a £ 30 voucher.

You have until Sunday December 4th to post your link below.
The winner will be announced the following week, once everyone has voted.

Good luck :O)

Before I go, I wanted to post a few pictures of our finished calendars for you to enjoy.

Simply Saturday sparkles too

Hi,
Yup, Simply Saturdays does sparkle too with Gay's last calendar page.
I have really enjoyed Gay's Clean and Simple calendar and I hope you have too.
Can't wait to read your comments.

I die cut the Townscape from glitter card, mounted it onto the page and then stamped the snowflakes. I painted in the windows with Distress inks and went a bit mad with the glitter glue, when it was still wet I added the irridescent glitter on top of the houses, that gave more dimension to the glue and it looks a little like snow.
Materials
Tim Holtz , On the Edge Townscape die,
Snowflakes stamp from Crafty Secrets, Sweet Kids
Stickles, Star dust

Portrait version
This is simply stamped and coloured with Copics. I used the crackle paint on each house and lots of Sstickles again :0). To unite the calendar with the image I drew 3 lines in matching colours.

Materials
Impression Obsession Stamp, Bethlehem by Hannah Davis,
Copics to colour,
Stickles, Star dust, Diamond and Eucalyptus.
Distress Crackle paint, Rock Candy

See you later for the last challenge
