Diamonds - Rachel Snook

Morning all,

Hope you are all well.

I heard on the radio the other day that we are
apparently going to have the hottest August ever!!
Average of 32 degrees every day.....do we
believe that??  Hmmm well it is going back to
winter at the moment so who knows?

Ok, Today we have a creation from
Rachel.  She has made a beautiful project
for a 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Obviously this could be adapted to fit any
occasion!

Cut a piece of white linen cardstock 11" in length
and 6" wide.
Score the card at 4, 6 and 7 1/2" across
the long side.

Make a small pencil mark at 2" top and bottom,
then lining up this mark at the top of a scoreline, follow
the line down using a ruler to ensure you stay straight.
Score until you reach the bottom of the 6" scoreline.

Turn the card around and repeat from the other pencil
line to the top of the 6" scoreline.  This will then give you
two diagonal scorelines.

Go back to the start of the card at the 4" scoreline and
mark the edge of the 6" side at 3, line the 2" mark
on your trimmer and cut diagonally to the 3"mark,
turn over and repeat.  You should now have a
diamond shape.

Take the card and starting with the 7 1/2" scoreline, fold
and score making a valley fold, burnish with a bone folder.
The one the 6" scoreline, mountain fold and burnish.
The one the 4" score Valley fold and burnish.

You are then left with the diagonal folds which
are folded as mountain folds, thus enabling the
diamond shape to be formed as the scoring enables the
cross sections to fold in.

To decorate cut a piece of the patterned paper
5 3/4" by 3 3/4".  Using a pencil and one back
of the paper, on the short side mark 1 7/8".  Mark
on all four sides.  As before line the marks up and cut off
all the four corner points and this will leave you a
diamond shape for the card front, place this and
the four pieces to one side and repeat this again.

This time put the corner pieces to one side and cut the
diamond shape in half.  Then cut a piece of paper
3 1/2" wide by 6" in length and trim slightly
smaller to cover the flat section of the card.
Also cut 2 rectangles 6 long 1 1/2 wide to cover
the small part of the card.  Using double sided
tape adhere the paper to the card as shown.

You have enough cut pieces to cover the whole of the front
of the card and rear of the folds.
Burnish folds and put to one side.

Using a Memory Box leaf die and  the Sue Wilson Camelia
Open and Complete dies,  die cut a selection of flowers
 and leaves .
Arrange as desired.

Die cut numbers 6 and 0, cut twice from Mirri
Card and glued on top of each other to give depth.
Arrange on the front of the diamond card.
Add dotty peel offs and small glitter domes to finish.

Wow.....you'll need to get your head around all
the measuring but it is definitely worth it in the end!
This is what Rachel used -

White Linen Cardstock
Craft Creations 12 x 12 Paper -
White with holographic Pattern
Sue Wilson Dies - Camellia - Complete
Sue Wilson Dies - Camellia - Open

Memory Box Dies - Numbers

Diamonds - Dawn Heald

Hellooooo,

It's a new week here on The Craft Barn Blog and time
for a new project.  what is it to be this week....
well we gave the DT one word - Diamonds
and this is what they came up with.....

Today we are starting with Dawn

Dawn says -

Hi there, when given the topic of diamonds I knew
straight away I was going to use my favourite stencil.
Having a diamonds shape stencil is so useful, it goes
with any theme, vintage, modern, it always works.
The sparkle aspect of diamonds comes from
the sparkle gels. Any of the Imagination Crafts stamps are
 great for cutting into.
To make my project I recycled a piece of corrugated
card board and made a wall hanging.

Here's what I did.....

Cut the board to size, I tore off some parts of the top
layers and glued some torn book page pieces on to
the board. I then painted it
with a range of PaperArtsy paints in yellows, oranges
and browns, using the translucent paints made a
difference to the finished effect.
When dry I've used Bronze and then Pastel Yellow
Sparkle Medium through the Diamonds stencil
onto areas of the painted board.

Whilst this was drying I stamped, coloured and cut
out three sets of flowers. Snipped into the
 flowers and shaped them.

I added glossy accents to the flower centres and sprinkled the
fine beads over.

Top Tip - Don't knock the tube over onto your carpet.
 Guess who did?
(Jane says.....yup I have done that too haha!!)

To match the blue beads I created some diamond shape
embellishments. Using chipboard,  die cut the Tim Holtz
Frameworks Die and the diamond bits that pop out are
what I used. Painted with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Paint,
sprinkled with same beads as above and added glossy
 accents over the top.

Attach an eyelet at the top corners of board and thread with
 ribbon to make a hanger.

Glue your flowers and blue diamonds to the board.
Job done.

Glue your flowers and blue diamonds to the board.

Job done.

Hope you like this and see you again soon. X

Well what a beautiful project, thank you Dawn,
if you want to have a go, this is what you'll need -

Clean and Simple - Neil Walker

Morning all,

Welcome to yet another weekend, hope it is not going to be
 a wet one!
As I write this, it has been raining all day, not so
good for the school holidays.

Today, we are featuring another clean and simple
project, this time by Neil.

Neil says ......

I have to confess, I don't think I am very good at this but
 hey, I try.....

Trim a piece of white card to 7 x 7".
Use a scrap of card to mask off approx two thirds of
 the piece.
Lay the mask onto the card and use Twisted Citron
 Distress ink to colour.

Ink over this with Hickory Smoke Distress ink.
Remove the mask and scrap card.
Run a thin strip of double sided tape. along the inked edge
and add a piece of white ribbon.
Add to the card blank with double sided tape.

Die cut a small heart from thin card using the Primitive heart die.

Paint with white crackle paint.
When dry, cover with Patina Green Antiquing cream and rub off.
Add to the card as seen.

Ink up the sentiment with Watering Can Archival ink.

Mask off the area you don't want to use with tape and stamp.

Well I think you've nailed it Neil, brilliant!!
I really like the clean and simple look.

So if you want to use the same as Neil, this is
what you'll need.....

Don't forget to let us know what you think, we always
like to hear your comments!

OK, I'll be back tomorrow with a new Challenge,
don't forget it is the last few days of July if
you are following the Calendar Challenge, get
your entries in!!

Have a great weekend,

Clean and Simple - Dawn Heald

Hellooo,

Here we are again on The Craft Barn Blog, another week
and it's nearly the weekend again!

This week we are looking at Clean and Simple!
This is great when you haven't got a lot of time and
just want to make something quick and easy.
It is actually not as simple as it looks...... and it is very hard
to know exactly when to stop!!

Today we are featuring Dawn.
Dawn has been a bit poorly this week, so we
wish her well with her recovery!

Dawn says -
Clean and simple doesn't come naturally to me, there
are many a talented crafter who pulls this style off perfectly.
Me I like to get messy. So this hopefully fits the topic and
 I got messy too.

Lay the Sweet Poppy stencil onto the card blank and use
low tack tape to secure in place.Take some embossing pastes,
put them on your surface and mix any colours you want.
I added some alcohol inks
for blue and purple. Then simply apply through the stencil.
 Let dry naturally.

Use black pencil to watercolour around tree bottom.
Add some Stickles star dust glitter glue to highlight parts.
Stamp and cut out the Lavinia Cat stamp and then triple heat
emboss with black powder. Glue under the tree.

I had some paste left over so made a couple quick cards
similar ready to add the sentiment to when required.

Thank you Dawn, a lovely card and a great idea to
make several at the same time so you always have
a card when needed.

Products Dawn used -

Dreamweaver Embossing Paste - Yellow, Green, Red, Pearl
Alcohol Ink - Indigo and Purple Twilight.
Stickles Glitter Glue - Stardust, Silver, Gold
Coloured card

Ok, I'll be back tomorrow with another project!

Weekly Challenge

Morning all,

Sunday is here again and time to announce a new
Weekly Challenge!
I'm sure it was only five minutes ago that I was trying
to think of something for last week.
We have had some lovely entries so far!

So what is it going to be this week then?
Well, we have featured Wreaths over the last week
so I'm thinking maybe something along the lines of
Circle and Flower(s)
Ok, it can be a complete circle or an open ring, the
flower(s) need to decorate it somehow!
One flower, two flowers how ever many you want, usually
better to have an odd number.

You know the rules, one week, entries will close at
midnight Sunday 26th July.
Entries, as many as you like, via the link or if
you are unable to use the link, email your pic to
janecraftbarn@gmail.com
and I will add them for you!
A £10 voucher will be the prize for the winning entry
picked by Mr Random Generator and announced
on Tuesday 28th July.

Good luck everyone,

I'll see you Tuesday with news of our latest winner!

And this one from Linda 49 sent to me on Saturday....

Homespun Wreath - Neil Walker

Helloooo,

Welcome to the weekend......
Hope you've all got some nice things planned!

So, today is our last Homespun Wreath project and
Neil is here to show you what he has made....

Neil says -
I began by painting the wreath with white crackle paint and
allowed to dry (though in retrospect I would recommend
that you paint it with gesso first as the crackle had a tendency
to shed a bit so I ended up painting it with Matte Faux Finish
 Medium to prevent more shedding!)

Next stage was to paint the wreath with Burnt Sienna Fluid
Acrylic and wiping it back to highlight some of the crackle.

Then, when dry I added some Cobalt Teal Hue and Titan Buff
Fluid Acrylic and rubbed it back to blend and reveal
 the colour below.

For the next stage I tied a ribbon to hang it from and then I
took a load of the Tim Holtz Thinlits Tiny Tattered Florals that
I had die cut from Distress Cardstock. These were attached to
the wreath with a glue gun.

I then took a heart that had been cut from the Primitive Heart
Die set from Sizzix. I used Tim Holtz Clockwork stencil and
modeling paste to add texture and painted it with the Cobalt
and Titan Buff before adding it to the wreath with the glue gun.

Thank you Neil, so pretty.
I really love those little flowers too.
Doesn't matter how many flower dies I have, I
always want more!

If you want to have a go, this is what you need -

So that's the projects for another week,
I'll be back tomorrow with another Challenge so if
you haven't already entered you better get cracking!!
