Diwali Week - Dawn Heald

Helloooo,

Hope you are all well and not flooded 

out after all this rain we've had over the last

few days.

This week we gave our DT one word

Diwali

Now I must confess, I knew nothing about

 it so I looked it up and found that it is 
the festival of light, an ancient Hindu festival
celebrated every year. The festival spiritually
signifies the victory of light over darkness. 

Today Dawn is with us to show you her 
project.

Dawn says......

 Hi there crafters, this week for our topic

 on Diwali I have altered a candle holder.

 I also looked into the reason for Diwali 

and learnt a lot, a love story too. I got

 the best lesson from my nine year old

 son, Samuel who knew the story inside out.

 So being know as the festival of light, I made this...

I used the Irresistible Texture Sprays as a paint

 and this worked well. It did however after 

drying, crack and push the stamped lines. 

I liked this look as it gave it a grunge feel

 to it, but you could easily go over the lines

 with a pen or paint and brush. I'm enjoying

 these sprays and look forward to more experiments.

To make this project - 

Give the glass a good clean and dry. Then

 stamp your images using Jet black Stazon 

ink. I laid my stamp flat on the surface, 

inked up and then rolled the

 glass over the stamp.

Next paint your images using a brush and

 Irresistible Texture Sprays. Don't forget

 you can mix colours together. Leave to dry.

Add some black paint dots using handle 

end of paint brush.

 Use glossy accents 

and attach multi colour gems to finish.

Animal Magic - Dawn Heald

Good morning all,

Welcome do day two of our

Animal Magic posts.

Today we have Dawn.

Dawn says ....

Hi all, well when given our topic for this week 

it just had to be cats for me. Our family

 includes four adopted house cats who we 

love dearly even with their own quirks and 

funny ways. This stamp set is fabulous. You

 can do so much with them, colour, paper piece,

 zentangle inside the outlines and they are a 

really good size so easy to cut out. They come 

looking all demure with eyelids closed, I've

 drawn in the eyes and whiskers!

To make this card -

I sprayed some Irresistible Texture Sprays in 

purples, red and pink on a craft mat and smooched

 some white card into it and lifted straight up.

 This dried with fabulous colour and texture. 

Then I stamped my cats on to this, drew some

 eyes and whiskers and cut out.

For the base card - masking off with a

 strip of paper,

 I laid the circles stencil on top and lightly sprayed 

through Pear Tart Irresistible texture spray. When

 dry I put the stencil back on and applied Squeezed

 Lemonade Distress ink.

 And inking the strip

 area too which I then stamped across with

 the paw print stamp with green Stazon. I

 wiped over with some kitchen roll to remove

 any ink from the sprayed areas.

Next,  I die cut the largest heart and applied glue

 and gilding flakes. This was added to the 

card base with foam pads. Then I simply added

 my cats on top. I've stamped the sentiment

 inside -  'You're the cats whiskers'.

Aah how cute is that?

It's supposed to be a nice day today and do you know

why.......

cos I'm working all day in the shop!!

So, today is our second day of Irresistible,

Dawn is here to show you what she has 

been up to.....

Hi all, what fun I've had using these sprays. Not

 just your ordinary colour spray, these leave you

 with translucent textured colour. You can just

 simply spray or use a stencil, flick them, make

 circle dome embellishments by unscrewing

 the lid and dabbing the end of the stick on

 craft mat. When dry they easily peel off

 ready to stick to your projects.

 

I wanted to try another way of using them.

 So I painted with them. I'm impressed.

 You can even paint texture into the areas

 coloured too. Embossing does push the

 colour away so paint a very thin layer

 then paint over again, it helps.

Lovely for colour washes and you can darken the

 colour by adding the colour liquid thicker in

 areas. So you can achieve tonal effects.

 Play around and you'll see their magical

 qualities. Also check out next week's project 

as I've used them again in another different way.

I've done an art journal page for this week's

 project. Working in the journal I made

 previously. Yes book pages, glued together.

 There is two as one was a practice!

Instructions -

Paint two coats of white gesso all over page. Stamp

 images and heat emboss with clear detail powder.

 Stamp bird onto plain paper and cut out to make

 a mask for later.

Paint main images with Irresistible Texture sprays.

Leave to dry.

Meanwhile add some more stamping without

 embossing and paint again with Irresistible Sprays.

I didn't have a yellow so mixed some paint with

 glossy accents. It worked to a degree but not as

 good or easy to work with as the spray colours are.

Finally mask off the bird, flick with colour from

 the bottles let dry then lightly add some distress

 ink to page. Wipe over page with kitchen roll or

 cloth to remove any ink from spray coloured

 areas. See they resist. Lol!

Irresistible - Neil Walker

Here we are again!

Where is this month going?

What happened to our heatwave......

scorching August, hottest on record......

really?? 

So we are back to British Summertime at it's 

very best.....grey and showery.

This week we are featuring the fabulous 
Irresistible Sprays! 

For those of you who do not know what they are....

"Irresistible is an odorless, water-based texture spray

 that is offered in the same colors as the Memento ink

 family plus white and 4 metallic colors

 (gold, silver, copper and bronze).

 The colorants in  Irresistible are pigment-based 

so as to be highly fade resistant and to be 

very visible on dark as well as light cardstock.

 When dry, Irresistible  texture and dimension adds

 visual interest to any project".

Creates fine almost stipple effects when sprayed

 from greater distances and creates a more

 opaque coat when sprayed closer up.

 Adds fabulous texture and vibrant, fade-resistant

 color to a variety of surfaces.  Can be sprayed,

 brushed, dabbed or stamped. Colors are mixable

 for your own custom hues. Use with water for

 a unique watercolor effect or with dye/pigment

 inks for a high-impact resist effect.

This is what Neil has made with them.... 

Neil says -
It's always interesting to see what new products do
 and how they differ from other products that are,
 on the surface, very similar.

Take these sprays. At first glance I thought that
 they would be pretty much similar to the Acrylic
 Misters, or Distress stain sprays.

So just to see what they were like I spritzed them
 onto some white card

What is interesting the the way these colours don't

 soak into the paper but sit on top and have a lovely

 texture to them. 

They also have a nice shine to them too.

I die cut and stamped some of the butterflies onto 

card and coloured with Distress Markers.

I mounted the white card onto blue card blanks

 and attached the butterflies.
A simple sentiment to finish and another couple

 of cards complete.

These are just so clean and simple.....
