Bird week: Lovely Tando tray

Hi, 
This week will be all about birds: bird on cards, birds on canvas, on Art Journal, caged birds.... lots of lovely projects our DT has been working on. 
To start off, Gio has altered a beautiful Tando Creative tray.
Tando offers a large range of printer's trays and "Scenelits" which are wonderful to work with.

I painted two pages of an old book with PaperArtsy Fresco Paints Snowflake. I stamped the peacock twice using the Kanban acrylic stamps: Birds of paradise-peacock and Jet Black StazOn.

I coloured the peacock using several colours of Distress Inks, using a baby wipe for largest area and a Zig BrusH2O Waterbrush (detailer) for small details.

I cut them out. I made some little cuts all over the peacock's tail with an exacto knife 

 I painted the Tando small printer's tray with PaperArtsy Fresco Paints Snowflake and Metallic glaze. I stamped the background using the Kanban acrylic stamps: Birds of paradise-peacock and Jet Black StazOn.

I glued all the structure together and I painted the borders with PaperArtsy Fresco Paints Old Gold and I stamped the flowers from the same stamp plate. 

I added some embellishments: the little birds are made of stamped shrink plastic, I glued the mini bottle and some lace. I glued the two peacocks one top of each other on the printer's tray, the second one letting free the tail.

 For the card: I stamped the peacock using Jet Black StazOn on a piece of acetate. I coloured the bird using several shades of alcohol inks (on the opposite side).

I glued it with Glossy Accent to a piece of cream cardstock. I stamped the sentiment from the same plate and added a piece of lace coloured with Cosmic Shimmer Scarlet Mist.

Simply Saturday resisting too

To finish this fantastic resist week, Gay is using embossed Versamark on her card, which not only acts as a resist but also adds a bit of texture to the card. It's basically the faux-batik without the ironing (what would she do to avoid taking that iron out?!). I'm kidding Gay.. 
Your card is absolutely stunning and I'm sure our readers will be inspired by this technique. 

I stamped the Ivy in Versamark clear embossing ink and embossed with the white embossing powder. Masked the sun and inked through the template with Distress inks. I randomly stamped with the ivy stamp and wild flowers from Andy Skinners stamps, using the Shabby Shutters and Crushed Olive inks for the background, finally adding the geese and sentiments.

Resistance is futile: Batik

Hi, 
All through the years as a crafter, you have heard about "faux-batik". This technique has been going for years. I remember the first time I heard about it was when I started crafting over 10 years ago.
But today, we are going to talk about the 'real' batik, when wax was (and still is) used as a resist on fabric.
I'm not going to go on and on about the traditional batik, but if  you are interested, you can always read more about it over at Wiki's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batik.
Back to today, if ONE of our DT member would have a fancy tool to make real batik, it would be IsasArt :) Having said that, you can replace that tool (called tjanting) with your favourite melting pot and a brush. Although I think the tjanting looks pretty cool, don't you?

 Isa'sArt started by stamping the winged heart and coloured the heart with the Aquamarker pen. She then used her tjanting (that's when you use a brush) to add drops of hot wax on the fabric

She let the wax cool (which does not take long), inked and sprayed the fabric and removed the wax with an iron as we do with the faux-batik technique (see Wednesday's post).
