Fanciful Plantation

Fanciful Plantation

Hallo Everyone!

Here we are, Saturday and the
last of our Zinskys and Infusions
(aka Fanciful Plantation)  It has
been quite a saga this week and
Hazel Harler is bringing it to a
tremendous finale

"The more I looked at the Zinski characters
the more I loved them and wish that
I could have got more of them on my project.

I decided to use my A4 journal for my project
and started by masking the edge of the page.

I sprinkled Infusions on the page and sprayed with water.

I kept adding more colours and spraying
with water, drying the page after each colour.

I splattered some white paint over the page.

I stamped some of the background images
onto the page then removed the masking tape.
I also stamped the images onto white
card and coloured them with coloured pencils

I cut out the coloured images and
glued them to the page, then I doodled lines round the
edge with a black marker and wrote the words
with coloured pencil and a black marker.

A close up of some of the characters."

Supplies:

Thank you Hazel, a super cool project
don't you agree Everyone?

I shall most definitely be doing this
one.  I can't decide at the moment
whether to hide it away in my journal
or make a picture to hang on the wall
................decisions...............decisions.........

Leave you with that

Till tomorrow

Fanciful Plantation

Fanciful Plantation

Hi Everyone!

What is that phrase? ......
Another day another doleur
(no its not dollar as we all believe)

anyway, no doleur here today
grab yourself a comfy seat and
maybe a cuppa too ...........and
relax.............Claire Jackson is
with us today and she's brought
with her a super project:

"Sprinkle the jade Infusions onto a
sheet of white tissue paper and spritz lightly
with water. Don’t over spritz it as the colour
will run and you are aiming for the
lovely speckled effect.

Leave to dry or you can speed it up with a heat tool.

Repeat for the other Infusions colours

Stamp the flowers, birds and bird house images
in black permanent ink onto white tissue paper
and heat set to ensure that they don’t
smudge later on.

Paint the back of the stamped images
with white chalk finish paint and leave to dry

When the paint is dry colour the front
of the images with soft pencils

Cut or tear around the images.
To get a soft edge which will blend in
invisibly you can draw a line around the image
with a paintbrush and water and
 gently tear the paper.

Make sure the vase is clean and grease free.
You can pick something up in a charity shop
or this one was very cheap from a supermarket.

Tear the coloured tissue paper into strips
of varying lengths.

The next stage gets very sticky so it’s best
to have all of the paper prepared at the start.

Using your fingers smear collage medium
onto a small area of the vase.

Place a strip of tissue paper on top and
smear collage medium over it, gently massaging it
into the paper so that the tissue becomes translucent
and the colour remains visible.

Work around the top of the vase placing strips
of black knight and violet storms.

Vary the length that they extend downwards.

Working from the bottom up add strips of emerald
and a bit jaded so that they interlace with the strips
coming down.

Make sure there is plenty of medium to
soak in and turn the tissue translucent.

In the same manner, using the collage medium,
place the images around the vase,
posing the quirky birds in and around the bird houses.

Add white dots with the enamel accents and
touch up the bird’s eyes with a white paint pen.

Leave it to dry thoroughly so that the collage
medium seals in the tissue paper.

Use it as a decorative vase by day or
 a candle holder by night!"

Beautiful project Claire, thank you.

Love how this technique breathes new
life into a piece of glassware that has
outworn its original purpose

'Till tomorrow

Fanciful Plantation

Fanciful Plantation

Hi there!

Have a super quirky project
for you today - it is making
me smile all over my face......

Jane Castle is here to share
her take on this week's topic:

"Well what a wonderful title "Fanciful Plantation"
it certainly got the creative juices flowing
when I read it on the DT's list.

Having made various cards of late I decided to
go for something a little different this time!

The main part of the bag is made up from
2 pieces of canvas measuring 20cm x 16cm each
and then the handles and gusset are formed
using 60% wool felt.

After cutting my canvas for the 2 sides of the bag
I cut a piece of copier paper the same size and mapped
out my design before spoiling any fabric

I then proceeded to stamp the images onto the
canvases using Archival inks.

Next came the fun part --- adding colour to the canvas.
For this I used PaperArtsy Infusions,
sprinkling a very small amount on at a time
 and spritzing with water.

I gradually added very small amounts to areas
and dabbing with kitchen paper when
I had acheived the right colour blend.

Once I was happy with the result I brushed the
whole canvas with some matt medium.

The 2 sides are slightly different
but I think that adds to it's charm.

I embellished the artwork with various beads
before attaching the felt gusset.

For this I cut a piece of felt 54cm x 6cm,
rounded off the 2 bottom corners of the canvas
and stitched the felt to one side

Before attaching the 2nd side I measured the
centre bottom of both the canvas and the felt
so that everything was completely square.

The opening around the top was lined with
more felt and after this was machine stitched
I added some hand embroidered blanket stitch
using a matching embroidery thread.

The handles were made from 2 pieces of felt
measuring 24cm x 5cm, folded in half
lengthways and machine stitched.

These were attached by hand as I was
not sure whether my machine would have
taken the 4 bulky layers.

The final touches ---- a wooden flower button
sewn on the bag at the point where
the handles join and a shrink plastic bird!

A hole was made in the plastic before
it was shrunk so it could be attached with some thread.

The 2 sets of stamps used in this project are fab,
everytime I get them out they make me smile
and that's got to be good for you!"

 ITEMS USED:

PaperArtsy Infusions in Sage and Sunset Beach
Shrink Plastic
Archival Ink in Jet Black & Cornflower Blue
Artists Canvas
Wool Felt

Thank you Jane - love this bag

Now if you fancy a super quirky bag but
maybe don't have the needlework skills
to make this one; why not get a linen bag
from here and stamp on that?
Or, stamp the design on a piece of
canvas and attach that to a ready made
bag?  The possibilities are endless..........!

'Til tomorrow
