Hi everyone,
What lovely spring weather we are having at the moment...
hope it continues for a bit longer. Makes you feel so much better when
the sun is shining!
Ok, I've given the DT a few days off so we can all catch
up with ourselves, they put a lot of long hours in to
creating these amazing projects for us.
So I've decided to pick a project by each of them which I
really like and I hope you will too.
Today I chose this brilliant idea from Neil,
I would never have thought to do this with
these letters!
Home is where the heart is.....
Begin by CAREFULLY cutting holes into your letters with a sharp
craft knife.
If you want to do something similar with a different set of letters,
only cut holes in the places that you can use to hold pens,
brushes etc.
Paint all the letters with white paint.
Spray the letters with a selection of Dylusions spray inks and dry
with a heat tool.
Stamp the owl images onto the letters with Cobalt Archival ink.
You will find it easier to stamp without using a block so you can
press into the uneven surfaces.
Give the stamping a quick blast with a heat gun to set and then brush
a layer of Decoart Faux Finishing Medium over everything. The
medium reacts with the ink and as you brush you can achieve a
lovely worn finish. The medium also serves to re intensify the
colours which tend to 'pastelise' when sprayed onto paint.
Leave to dry.
Use a glue gun to attach your word onto a base. This is a piece of
driftwood picked up from the beach; other choices are thick
chipboard, along the top of a chunky canvas.....anything really.
Use markers to add details to the owls.
Add flowers and bits to finish. Make a sign using a chipboard circle
or similar. Use a glue gun to glue a skewer to the back of the sign and
to attach it to the base. Write "is where the art is" in pen onto the
sign. Add some colour with Dylusions and when dry use Triple thick
glaze to give the shine.
Now you can add your pens and brushes.....If you want to make Marta
here you will need to have a "damaged" brush (This came from
painting a radiator cover). The face was moulded from air dry
lightweight clay. The wings are Tim's layered wings die. Layered
up with a glue gun to give dimension and glued in place.
Materials that Neil used -
Dylusions - Crushed Grape, Vibrant Turquoise, Dirty Martini and Cherry Pie
DecoArt - Americana Warm White Acrylic paint, Faux Finishing
Medium and Triple Thick Glaze
Lindsay Mason - Zendoodle, Owl Buddies outline stamp.
Archival Ink - Cobalt
I really like this project and it would make a really
interesting and unusual gift for a fellow crafter/artist!
Ok, I'll be back tomorrow with another project
specially chosen for you!

Well deserved break for the DT! Love the colours of Neil's make and the whimsical stamped images and other bits (is that a hat or did she comb her hair with a firecracker!)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a firecracker LOL!
