Mystical week - Karen

Hi,
Second day for our Lavinia Mystical week and a lovely canvas made by Karen.
The picture does not do it justice. Once you have read the description, you will see that this sample must shine/glitter all around.
Here's the stamps Karen used.

I have decorated a small canvas board to make a hanging picture for my project.

For the background I made coloured 'waves' but using a piece of copy paper cut with a wiggly line as a guide, adding the different Kaleidacolor Inks with a sponge.
Then I added some colour through some sequin waste (Fresco Finish acrylic: Guacamole).
Taking Archival Ink in Cobalt, I stamped the Acorn House and Wings onto some card and the Wings, Fairies and 'Believe' onto tissue paper.
These were gently torn out and attached to the canvas with Multi-Medium. The Acorn House was coloured with Inktense pencils and then the house and the wings (on the card) were covered with clear glitter.
I cut out the house and wings and glued in place before adding some Treasure Gold around the edges and on the house. Some wire was attached to hang the picture by.

Karen used:
Kaleidacolor Rainbow Ink Pad - Berry Blaze
Treasure Gold - Classic
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Medium - Matte
Archival Ink - Cobalt

Hexagon week - Gay

Hi,
A couple of months ago, or is it 3?... we did a circle week...
Working with specific shapes is fun so we though we would do it again with hexagon this time.
Hexagons have been zee big thing in the crafting world, esp. with scrapbooking and a lot of manufacturers have come up with hexagon stamps, masks, templates, dies and more which are a lot of fun to play with.

Let's start this week with our Guest Designer Gay and a beautiful C&S card.

The hexagon mask I used has lots of different sized hexagons on it.
My first decision was how to place it on my card after that it was very straightforward, inking through the mask with Distress inks and adding a great sentiment from Kaisercraft.

Gay used
Crafter's Workshop template: Hexagons
Kaisercraft stamps: Proud

Opposites week - Sylvie

Hi,
Opposites will be bright VS pastel... or modern VS shabby with Sylvie today. Once again, same stamps are used but the change in style and colours really make them totally different.
Looking forward to your comments below.

For the pastel background, press your ink pads on the craft sheet, spray with a bit of water and press your cardstock onto the ink. Dry with a heat tool.
Add the diamonds using the Harlequin mask and Distress inks
For the bright background, apply some paint on the Craft Sheet, spray with a bit of water and press your card onto it.

You will end up with a different (thicker) effect than with the Distress inks. You can use some kitchen towel to dab off the excess paint.
Use the mask and Distress inks, but with darker colours this time (Picked Raspberry and Barn Door)
Stamp the images by Lindsay Mason, colour and cut them out

Tear your paper, ink the edges with Distress inks (Black Soot for the bright card, Broken China for the shabby) and glue them on your card
Stamp a few flowers and leaves
Stamp the flowers several time on white cardstock, colour and cut them out to make 3D flowers

For these cards, I added a little flap on the right (made with paper inked the same way as the backgrounds)
and I stamped the text from the same stamp plate
I added ribbons to both cards, as well as a few Kaisercraft roses on the Shabby card and a music notes from Tando Creative.
The girls are glued to the card with 3D foam squares

Matériel utilisé:
Woodware ribbons satin (bright pink et yellow)
Archival ink pad: Black Jet

Opposites week - Jane

Hi,
Jane's turn today and she chose to go with LIGHT vs DARK.
This makes quite a dramatic change to your card. Look below, the same stamp and designs are used yet the cards look so different. I would say the dark one would be more suitable for a teen when the lighter one could be used for a younger kiddo.
Let us know what you think in a comment below.

Opposites week and I decided on 'light and dark'

Just by using different colours changes the look of your projects.  First is 'light'

 Now using darker colours

The images were coloured with Copics.  I just love these stamps

A splash of colours - Jane

Hi,
Jane's turn and her colour scheme was Pool: orange - turquoise - white
I have to share Jane's first reaction when she saw the colour scheme I gave her:
"Orange ,blue and white..........are you having a laugh Izzy?????"

Yes I laughed.. when I read her reaction...
I must add that I did NOT impose the colour schemes. I did say, if you don't like it, let me know, I'll change it.
But Jane took up the challenge and came up with this really pretty bracelet and earrings. Sometimes pushing people out of their comfort zone is a good thing.

As the summer has finally got here and holidays are not far off for some, I decided on some jewellery for that hot, sunny day sitting round the pool........not in this country obviously.....
The bracelet is made using elasticated cord so really doesn't take long to do.  Arrange the beads how you like and tie off in a tight knot

The matching earrings are made using short flat end head pins and looped onto jump rings

Materials used -
Tiny bead mix: Wedding Days, Tutti Fruity and China Blue
Fish hook Earwire: silver plate
Round jump rings 5 mm: silver
Short Head Pins: silver

A splash of colours - Neil

Hi,
Here's Neil take on the Splash of Colours theme with a lovely Art Journal page.
What I had given to Neil was: "Summer by the lake" with the colours green(s)-brown-blue
I guess he took that quite literally :)

I began my page by painting a lake in Desert Turquoise and the ground in Mint Julep Green. The sky is Calypso blue.
Then I took the Eclectica stamps and used a combination of Burnt Sienna and Fawn paint to stamp the leaves onto the bottom of the page. I used Avocado and Mint Julep paints for the leaves on the top of the page. I used Napa Red and Marigold to stamp the flowers onto white card. I used Cut and Dry Foam to apply the paint. I must say that these stamps work really well for stamping with paint; just remember to clean them immediately!

I cut the flowers out and stuck them down. All the details were outlined with a black marker, some detail added with Peeled Paint and Stormy Sky Distress Marker and the journalling was done in a white pen.

A splash of colours - Karen

Hi,
Karen is with us today and her colour combination is Red-Orange-Yellow. I think I had sunset on the beach in mind when I chose that one LOL.
Karen chose to use one of Neil's fabulous book cover to make an art journal.
Here's how she did it....

I have chosen to decorate one of Neil Walkers fabulous Book Covers from Tando Creative. There are three layers to each side and are very sturdy when made up. I started by painting the elements using Pebeo Cadmium Yellow Hue, Pebeo Cadmium Orange Hue and PaperArtsy London Bus.
Tip of the day: if you are going to use a Bind It All, now is the time to make your holes as the book cover will not fit in when glued together!

Take the outer sections (which I have done in red) and using the Tando Creative Mask - Sequin Waste - apply Imagination Crafts Sparkle Medium in Bright Red. While this is drying apply a bit of the PaperArtsy London Bus and Beach Hut paint to a scrap of white card. Taking the yellow base of your book stamp flowers from PaperArtsy JOFY 10 with Perfect Medium and emboss in Stamp and Stuff Blue. Also stamp and emboss the flower heads onto the painted card.
Cut the heads out and attach over the stamping on the yellow base.

Go around all the edges with Brilliance Ink in Rocket Red and then glue your pieces together. I have added a computer generated quote to the front and used a Bind It All to make the book. To make the pages I have used some of my unwanted scrapbook paper and just torn them to the right size. Now its all ready for journaling!

Inspired by a painting... Izzy

Hi,
My turn today for the Inspired By post. I must admit Neil's suggestion for this week's theme was an instant hit for me.
There are many artists I like, but one I absolutely love is William Turner... the "king of light" as my mum would say.
So it's no surprise that I chose 3 of these paintings as my inspiration today to make 3 (very humble) postcards.

Postcards... remember those? Unfortunately with texting and FB these days, when people go on holiday, we get more of a "we got here ok" via text message rather than the "old fashioned" postcard. And it's a shame I think... People don't "write" anymore
Sooooo, with this in mind, even if I'm not going on holiday this year, I wanted to make a few "postcards".

The new Crafty Individuals Silk Cards are perfect for those. Have you tried them? If you have not, you are missing out!! My top favourite to stamp on now.. Can't stop using them!

All three cards are Clean and Simple and made the same, very easy way: stippling and stamping.
I used Distress inks and Crafty Individuals stamps on all of them.

The first one was inspired by "Fishermen at Sea"

I used
Crafty Individuals stamps: CI-284 and CI-256

The second inspired by "Fort Vimieux"

I used
Crafty Individuals stamps: CI-272

The third by "Moonlight"

I used
Crafty Individuals stamps: CI-294 and CI-256

On the three cards, I used:

Inspired by a painting... Neil

Hi,
Another very different approach today with Neil and this Art Journal page inspired by a Piet Mondrian painting. Although Neil chose to make an AJ page, this could be used for anything really: tag, card, scrapbook page, shadow box... A lot of potential here.

Composition II in red, blue and yellow by Piet Mondrian

And this is what I did; a page in my journal

To begin I marked out the design in pencil in my journal and chose my colours

What I wanted to do was create a place to write on the page without it being visible so I cut a square of white card the same size as the square on the left, second down from the top and, using Tim's Tissue Tape I hinged it on the right hand side. I then opened it and attached more tape inside. This gives a strong hinge without adding bulk.
I needed to do this before painting to cover the tape so you couldn't see it. I then painted the page

Once it was dry I added the lines with a black marker which neatens everything up nicely and defines the blocks.
So, remember the first photo? This one.....

 Can you see the flap?
So, that's my page, inspired by Piet Mondrian. I think this would make a great tag background too. Hope you like it. Sometimes, keeping it simple is good!

Materials
Decoart Americana paints: Warm White, True Red, Cadmium and Deep Midnight Blue.

Sketch week - Gio

Hi,
Scrapbooking on a giant tag is how Gio chose to approach the sketch this week. Scrapbooking along with cardmaking are probably the way sketches are used the most. Scrapbooking on a giant tag is a change from the traditional 12x12 page.
Hope you like it.

I cut a giant tag from a sheet of Grungeboard basics plain.
I covered it partially with some PaperArtsy Grunge Paste with a palette knife.
When still wet, I stamped with a flower stamp from Hot Picks 1206 plate to create some texture. When dry I swiped on the surface the Distress Inks Distress Ink pad: Salty ocean and Distress Ink pad: Seedless Preserve and I gessoed lightly.
I stamped some flowers using the same stamps and Ranger Archival Ink pad: Deep Purple. Using an applicator and the Distress Ink, I added the eye chart with the The Crafters Workshop template - Eye Chart.
I adhered some pieces of tissue tape and I stamped the date and placed using Stampendous Small Typewriter Alphabet and Ranger Archival Ink pad: Deep purple.
I cut from the very printed sketch the little frames, I coloured , stamped and used them to frame the pictures.
I added the frames to the tag along with ribbons and some self-adhesive pearls
