Bag It

Bag It

Hi Everyone!
Hope you're having a
good day.  I'm hoping
for a seriously good
crafting day -  I see the
UFO's are settling back
into my Craft Room and
we can't have that..........

Helen Chilton is back with
us today and oh my, does
she have a super fabulous
project to share using a
Kraft bag and Kay Carley's
new PaperArtsy stamps.

"Step 1

I'm cutting out a window in one side
of the Kraft bag using a
Sizzix Framelit (any shape) and I've put in
the long thin plate to cut on

Step 2

If you haven't got this type of plate
just put your die on the inside of the bag,
cutting side downwards - a bit more fiddly,
but it still works.

Step 3:

Next stamp your images from Kay Carley
sets 05, 06 and 07

Step 4

Paint them in using Frescos, going over the lines.

Step 5:

Then add some South Pacific blue
and give shape to the flowers in white.

Step 6:

You can see here how the white paint gives the flower form.

Step 7:

Paint the spikey flower in Pixie Dust going
over the black again.

Step 8:

Add extra colour with coloured pencils
and then highlights and shading.

Step 9:

Cut acetate to fit the window, mask
and start stamping in black.

Step 10:

Here's a close up - I've stamped the first few
in grey and then stamped over the top
in black to add depth.

Here's the back"

Materials used:

PaperArtsy Kay Carley 05, 06, 07
Fresco paints
Derwent Coloursoft pencils
Acetate
Kraft bag

Thank you Helen for a beautiful
project.

This would make a lovely present
filled with toiletries or a maybe a
selection of seed bags for a gardener.

What would you put in it?

'Till tomorrow

Bokeh

Bokeh

Hallo Everyone!

Hope you are all well and
seasonal bug free................

everywhere I go it seems
that everyone is coughing and
sneezing.................might have
to consider living in quarantine
for the time being ............

Today's Bokeh project is from
Craftyfield, who has a different
take on the technique:

" I started by applying Distress inks to my Kraft tag.
Some of the lighter colours do not show much at this stage
but will be revealed in the next stage...

To create the Bokeh effect I have designed my own stencil,
of course you can use one of the many circles designs available
but I'm a control freak... and wanted to create the circles one at a time.

To cut your own, use either circle dies or a circle cutter as I did.

The traditional way to create the Bokeh effect
is to use white pigment ink but I fancied trying it
 with a Distress Crayon first.

I stencilled 2 circles with a white Distress crayon to see the results.
I continued with the pigment ink as I found it easier to
control the different levels of opacity of the circles.

For the stamping I used the Paper Artsy flowers with Versafine black
and embossed them in clear powder. T

he sentiment by Kaisercraft is also stamped with Versafine but not embossed.

You can see my embossing powder container (ex take away dish) in which I decant my pot.
Not much left at the moment!

I pulled out my Gelatos and coloured a circle around the flower heads
using a stencil, to echo the Bokeh circles.

Quite simple to make, although it did take me a long time
to stencil all those circles one by one!

The most difficult part is to know when to stop
and I hope I haven't gone overboard!"

Supplies:

No, Craftyfield you haven't gone overboard -
it is a super tag.  I love the technique you
used too, not to mention cutting your own
stencil!

I quite often cut my own stencil's too and I use
a purpose made product called Punch it And Die

"Till tomorrow

Around the House

Woohoo!............ It's Friday
and here is super project using an item
we all have in the house.

Over to you Chris Dark

I’ve enjoyed creating some ATCs using the easiest of household items to find which is salt! This is a time honoured watercolour technique but it works beautifully with distress ink too. I've incorporated Kay Carley's gorgeous Cosmos Flower Stamps for PaperArtsy to create this set of summary floral ATCs which give a nice burst of colour and work really well size-wise on the ATCs

Cut ATCs from watercolour paper and add distress inks direct from the pad, I added roughly half and half of a couple of colours in each ATC.

Spritz all the ATCs with water, it needs to be quite wet but not running off the card then sprinkle over the salt. I've used sea salt in this case but rock salt can also be used and that will give a slightly different effect.

In this close up of the salt it can be seen how quickly it begins to soak up the ink. Leaving the card to dry naturally gives the best results.

When the card has completely dried remove all the salt to reveal the lovely mottled background. As I used sea salt and the nature of the crystals is flakes I was left in some areas with a slight residue which I scrubbed back lightly with kitchen paper

With the PaperArtsy Kay Carley Stamps use the stalk part of the stamp with back ink and stamp at angles onto the card, fill in with other grass stamp. Repeat this for all the ATCs

I made some pretty multicoloured flowers using the head of the more open cosmos flower. First I prepared some book paper with a watered down coat of gesso and added distress inks to this when the gesso was dry. I stamped the flower multiple times and cut them all out. In some areas I added a bit more distress ink with a sponge

I also added two of the sentiments on to scraps of the book paper and I hand wrote a couple as well. The sentiments were cut out and glued on together with the flowers. I've added some black distress marker around the sentiments and used black and white pens to add dots and highlights to the stamping.

Did I say it was a super project?  Wasn't wrong, was I?!
Many thanks Chris
