Weekly Challenge

Hellooo,

Hope this finds you all enjoying the weekend!

It's the last one in May and June starts tomorrow so
we are nearly half way through the year already!!
Where does the time go??

So here we are again on Sunday morning and the start of a
new Weekly Challenge.
The last week has been all about Transport so I think we
shall have to stick with that.
The DT were asked to feature something that needed
a licence for.....but I'm not going to worry about that for
you!

Any form of transport - roller skates, ice skates, skis,
car, plane whatever you want as long as it
 'transports' you.

As usual you have one week, as many entries as you like
which will close at midnight on Sunday 7th June.
Entries via the link below if possible or email them to me
janecraftbarn@gmail.com

The winner will be picked by Random Generator
and receive a £10 gift voucher.
The winner will be announced on Tuesday 10th June.
Good luck everyone!

Transport - Neil Walker

Hi folks,

Today is our second day featuring Transport.

We have come a long way in 80 years since the driving test
was made compulsory.  Not all for the better either!

Ok, today we have a lovely project
from Neil

Cut a piece of plum card 7 inch square and a piece of white
 card 6.5 inch square.
and a 6.5 by approx 3.5 inch plum card and a 6.5 x approx
 3 inch white card.
Cover the smaller white card and the top and bottom of the
larger white card with Forest Moss Distress ink.
With the plane image on a block, spritz with water and stamp
onto the smaller white card. Leave for a few seconds, remove
stamp and blot with paper towel to leave a ghost image of the plane.

Dry this and ink up the same image with Forest Moss Distress Ink
and stamp over to give a detailed image.
Stamp the word Adventure using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink into
 the bottom left corner.

Repeat this with the larger piece of inked card using both the
plane and Steampunk label. Keep everything pretty random.
Don't try to line up anything other than the main Steampunk
label.
Mount both pieces of inked card onto the plum card. Mount the
smaller piece onto the larger piece using 3d foam tape.
Add silver nailheads to the four corners of the larger card.

Stamp the two labels onto white card using Plum Archival ink.

Cut out and ink with the two colours of Distress Ink before adding
to the card as seen.

Then, this is where, if you are like me, you need to go and wash
your mucky paws before adhering this piece onto your
pristine 8 x 8 card blank!

Thank you Neil, haha.....love that last line!
Ok, how many of us have done that??
A big inky fingerprint in the middle of our bright white
card?  If you say you have never done that, then I'm sorry,
I don't believe you!!!!

This is what Neil used -

So what do you think, don't forget we love to hear your comments.

I'll be back tomorrow,

Transport - Dawn Heald

Hellooo,

How are we all??

So, who knows what Anniversary is on May 31st???

You are never going to get this......

actually, I have it on good authority (our great leader - Sandy),
that May 31st is the 80th Anniversary of Compulsory Driving Tests!!

Told you!!

We are so full of......information here haha!!!!

The DT have been given the word Transport and it
had to be something that you would need a licence for!!

Today we start with Dawn

"The anniversary of compulsory driving licences reminded me
of my father telling me the story of him having only two
lessons and his test, passing first time and how they cost
then about 50 pence in today's money. (Jane says - ten bob
as I remember it!!)  Also my father
worked as a bus conductor at one time, again more
stories. So this stamp seemed to fit the bill.

I've not done a tag for a while so decided on that. However,
crafters block set in, then you know when everything you try
goes wrong, well it did, I'd done it first on a coated tissue
paper after running out of white paper, painting on the
back, well let's say I was too heavy handed and it tore
that was after it smudged a bit which I'd fixed. Next thing
I made went wrong when putting Versamark on top. And
that's how it went on, disaster. So this is what I ended up
making, I still like it and it was good to go back to more basic
techniques and to colour directly onto a crackle painted
 background."

To make -
Paint a size 8 manila tag with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Space
Cadet and Pea Coat. Leave to dry. Spread over a layer or
PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze. Dry. Paint over this with
 snowflake. Leave to dry and.......
magic. A great crackle every time whether you use a brush or
sponge and any direction. It works .
Next, stamp the London Bus stamp with black Stazon directly
onto the painted tag. Colour in with Red and Pumice Stone Distress
 Markers.
Use Scattered Straw Distress Marker as an ink to stamp the
signs in places on the tag.
Distress the edges and colour edges with Distress Ink
 Faded Jeans and Tea Dye.
Stamp and colour a sign on spare card, cut out and fix to tag.
Layer this onto the pattern paper, then onto red coloured card.
Finish by embellishing with buttons and a red paper clip.

Wow, well one may have gone wrong but this has
turned out very nicely!!

Funnily enough I remember my grandad telling me
that the only driving test he took was in a fire engine and that
was when he had just driven back from a fire!!  A fire engine
with L Plates.......no way!!

This is what Dawn used -

Paperclip from own stash

Thank you Dawn,

I'll be back tomorrow with another project,
see you then.

Down our Road - Neil Walker

Hellooooo,

It's the weekend.....yay.....and it's Bank Holiday
weekend here too which means another day off for a lot
of people!  It also means, probably, a weekend of rain
in typical British fashion.  We wouldn't expect anything else!!

Ok, so if you have nothing on and it's raining, don't
forget The Craft Barn is open
Saturday 9.30 - 5 pm
Sunday and Monday 10 - 4 pm
Why not pop in and do some crafty shopping!

Alright, today is our last day of Down our Road
and Neil has an absolutely stunning project for you!
Every time I look at this, I see something I hadn't noticed
before.

Neil says....

Down our road, around the corner and up the country for about
5 hours is my little slice of paradise..........

Take one sheet of  the paper and trim out the windows of the
door and the top, bottom and centre of the door to create
an opening.  Add your chosen photo.

Take a second sheet of the paper and cut out the pieces
as seen.  Fix the larger piece to the matching area on
the first sheet using 3d foam tape or pads. Leave
the narrow strip to one side.

Trim a third sheet as seen. Set the main image to one side as
 it is not required.

Add the narrow corner strip to the top of the page with 3d
foam tape or pads as before and add the narrow strip from
the previous cut to the top of this. This gives you a lovely
 dimensional page.

Use the left over paper from the "fussy cut" sheet to die cut a
few medium and small flowers from the Tattered Florals die.
Assemble and make flowers by attaching them in groups with
a small brad and using water to shape to create co-ordinating
flowers. Attach 3 to the layout. A more detailed tutorial
on creating this style of flower can be found here

Cut a small tag with the Mixed Media die. Stamp the label
stamp onto this. Give a pale wash of ink or paint to
add a hint of colour. Tie some ribbon onto it and add to
the page obscuring the writing on the sign and tucking
the edge behind the bird. Use Liquid Pearls to add a small
 heart to the tag.

Add further highlights to the page with Liquid Pearls to the birds
and the page to finish.

So what do you think.....how beautiful is that??
So colourful, I love it, thank you Neil.

Here is the list of products used if you want to
have a go.....

Another week over, enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend if you
are in the UK, if not, sorry I guess you are back to work as
 usual on Monday!

I shall be back tomorrow with the new Weekly Challenge
so if you haven't entered yet then you best be quick!
And there is only one more week for your entry for
 the Calendar Challenge.

Down our Road - Dawn Heald

Morning all,

It is day 2 of Down our Road and today we have a wonderful
project for you from Dawn.

Dawn says ......

"What a fabulous topic this week, a great reason to get out
my new PaperArtsy JOFY Stamps. I wanted to create something
colourful with texture. So here's my canvas. I'd love to know
what you think and any tips you have when creating a mixed
 media canvas. Happy Crafting. X

To make this -

Set the scene.....

To start, create different textures on the canvas board by sticking
on pieces of book pages, washi tape and crumpled tissue paper.
Let dry, then spread random areas of Grunge Paste through the
honeycomb stencil and also without any stencils. Build up the
texture. You can always sand it down later when dry .
When dry, paint entire surface with a couple coats of
white Gesso.

Next paint a sky and grass area using Media Misters to start
with, then with Fresco Finish Paints and more Misters.
Dry and rub over with a sanding block to take some paint off the
 raised areas.

Lightly apply some white antiquing cream again catching raised
areas.  Seal the canvas with the Satin Finish Varnish.
Now to add some patterns. All in random areas, stamp the
Kaisercraft dictionary and numbers texture stamps with different
colour Stazon inks. Then stamp the Kaisercraft bubble wrap stamp
using white Gesso. Do this without an acrylic block, ink up the
stamp and roll or press down only parts of the stamp.
I keep them on the acetate backing when doing this and
 works a treat.
Spread silver embossing paste through Art Is Script stencil in
 random areas.
With the yellow embossing paste, spread some on the open
pot rim and press onto canvas. Like a Sun.
Use a spray can lid, spread some more yellow embossing paste on
its edge and press and twist over the first lot of paste. Sprinkle
with glitter jewels iced snow. Leave canvas to dry.

Create the scene.....

Stamp PaperArtsy JOFY images onto white card and then onto
coloured pattern papers and paper piece the designs. Use
pencils to add more colour and a white gel pen to add highlights.
Cover the flowers with glossy accents and coat with glitter
jewels iced snow. With black pen, draw around the edges of
completed pieces.

Stamp FAMILY on more pattern paper.
Using wooden coffee stirrers or lollipop sticks, make a fence
and paint with white acrylic paint, crackle paint and crackle paste.
Build up lots of layers to get it looking like it's old but repainted
year after year.

Arrange your images on the canvas and glue down.
Squeeze Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearls to flower centres.

Dot white Enamel Accents around the grass, like tiny flowers.

Phew that was a long one, but I hope you like the written step
by step, to perhaps help those wanting to try something like
this or inspire seasoned mixed media's.
I personally, was really
pleased with the outcome and will definitely be doing more like
this. It was fun to play and build up the layers".

And we are very pleased with it too Dawn!
Another amazing project, thank you!

If you want to have a go.....
here is what Dawn used -

PaperArtsy JOFY stamps 29, 32
PaperArtsy JOFY mini stamps 20, 35
Kaisercraft Texture stamps - Dictionary, Bubble Wrap, Numbers,
Decoart Media Misters -Primary Cyan, Turquoise, Yellow Green
Sanding Block

Well thats it for today,
I'll be back tomorrow with another project from Neil.

See you then,

Jane x
