Word Play - Dawn Heald

Helloooo,

Welcome to another week on the blog.
This week we gave the DT two words....

Word Play

That's all we gave them and this is what Dawn
created from those words....

"Hi crafty friends, when I saw this week's theme I knew that I

wanted to make some kind of interactive project that I could use
with my little girl who is busy learning to read. I decided to go
for a Never-ending Card. These are easy to make and you can use
plain card or pattern or card you've coloured yourself to use as
a base. Then you can decorate however you like. Just remember
to keep layers and embellishments flat. You can easily adjust the
size to suit as long as the long edge is twice the size of the
short edge. I do hope I've managed to explain it well.

To make the actual card -

These steps are all shown in pictures on white card to explain
the method. For my actual project I used brightly coloured
 plain card.

1.Cut four pieces of card, 6 inch x 3 inch

2. From short edges 1.5 inch in, score a line. Repeat for all
 four pieces.

3.Take two pieces and lay next to each other with the long
edges horizontal. This makes a square. Apply adhesive (dry or wet)
in each outside corner.

4. Then with your other two pieces, positioned with long
edges vertical (opposite way to first two pieces), lay
directly over the top and press on adhesive areas to secure.
I'd suggest leaving a couple mm gap in the middle where pieces
meet as it is less likely to catch when turning card into each
position. Don't worry if any edges are slightly 'scewiff' as you
can trim them without affecting the card itself.

5. Finished base card.

6. I ended up making more up for my other three children

 in different sizes and colours.

Fold each score line and press with bone folder.
To this back and forth and on each turn of card.

To decorate my Never-ending Card. I've used these gorgeous
bright coloured pattern papers. Using the paper backed with
card really adds weight to overall card and the card flips lovely
and feels really good too. Sounds strange but true.
Here's how.
From purple card, cut
8 x 2 3/4 inch squares
8 x 2 3/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch rectangles
8 x 1 1/4 inch squares
From pattern papers, cut
8 x 2 1/2 inch squares
8 x 2 1/2 inch by 1 inch rectangles
8 x 1 inch squares
Apply distress inks to pattern paper edges. Use silver pen or ink
pad and run around edges of purple card. Stick pattern papers to
corresponding purple card pieces. Stick these to the sections
 on card base.
Die cut letters from darker purple card and Stick to sections spelling
 out your chosen words.
Use Stazon inks and Stamp some small images onto pattern
paper and white card. Colour with Distress Markers, cut out and
 glue to your card.
Last, play with your card."

Oh my goodness, how amazing is this!
I love the bright colours!

Weekly Challenge

Good morning all,

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Do you realise it is nearly the first of the two Bank
Holidays we shall be enjoying in May! Does that mean
summer is coming?  I know we have had some lovely days so far
but isn't it nice to know that hopefully the days will get even
warmer and we will have lots more sunshine, no rain and....
........a hosepipe ban! Haha!!
For those of you not living in the UK, do you get your water
rationed too when it doesn't rain enough?

Oh well, let's get on with what we are supposed to be doing....

This week's challenge....did I catch you out a bit last
week by not doing the obvious.....like to keep you on your toes!
So, this week let's be predictable and say

Night and Day

The same project twice but one coloured for daytime,
the other, for night time!
Keep it as simple as you like.

So as many entries as you like, as usual by the link which will
close at midnight May 3rd.  The winner will be
announced on May 5th and the prize is
a £10 Voucher.

I'll be back Tuesday with the winner
of last weeks Challenge.

Night and Day - Jane Collman

Morning all,

Welcome to the weekend!

Due to a technical hitch, I cannot bring you Pauline's
project today, so I had a look back quickly in
the archives to find something I made for the blog a couple of
years ago.

Again, using light and dark colours to show how different a
project can look and in fact how it would appeal to different
age groups.

For this project I used a Lindsay Mason stamp, Memento ink
and then coloured with Copics.

Love this sentiment....

Perfect for young teenagers

a very hard age group to make for!

This is what I used -

Lindsay Mason Stamps - Moochin and I've Had Enough
                                                     Copics
                       E000, 00, 11, 31, 33, 35, Y21, B91, 93, 95, 97
                          W3, 5, 7, 8, C1, 2, 3, 5, C1, 2, 3, 5, R56, 59,
                                     RV93, BG11, 13, 72, T0, 1, 2
                                         Coredinations Cardstock
                                              Bazzill Dotted Swiss
                                       Memento Ink - Tuxedo Black
                                                           Papers no longer available!

Well, that's it for this week on the blog, hope you've enjoyed the
projects and don't forget to tell us what you think!
Your comments are always important to us.

                                                             See you Sunday,

                                                                    Jane x

Night and Day - Dawn Heald

Morning all,

It is day two of Night and Day and Dawn is here today to show
us what she has been up to.

She has made two beautiful cards in different colourways.
Don't they look different??
It is amazing what changing colours can do!

This is what Dawn says.....

"I've made two cards for my project this week.

I knew straight away I wanted to use this new Celtic Dreams Die.
There are so many ways of using this die with many techniques
and mediums that I sent myself dizzy. So I decided to go
simple and striking and using alcohol inks as its been a while
since I played with them. Just a note too, these die's
are a dream to cut. Very impressed.

So to make ....

Choose some alcohol inks and blending solution and put drops
on the applicator and create some backgrounds.
For my day card I used; Pool, Sunshine Yellow, Citrus and Gold
Mixative. For my night card I used; Indigo, Purple Twilight,
 Mermaid and Silver Mixative.
Indigo and Mermaid are two new colours and are very strong.
You don't need as much on your applicators when using with
 older colours of alcohol inks.

Choose which backgrounds you want to use.
Next using Celtic die, cut two each from white and black card.
Glue a white onto black and black onto white. Slightly offsetting
them as shown in pic. Glue to your background and cut around
 the edges.

Next add details to your top die cuts. Use markers and black pen
on the white card die cut image and Interference paints and silver
pen on the black card die cut image. Punch some tiny flowers and
colour to match your image details.
                                        Glue around the branches.

Cut three squares of card going up in size for layers to go behind
your main image. I used white card and coloured the edges with
Pro Markers. Cheaper and easier to match with your focal point.
You could use coloured card. I also coloured the front edges of
the card blank and inside so it looked like another two layers of colour.
Stick all your layers together and then onto your card blank.

Finish by embellishing with some coloured gems".

How lovely are they??
If you want to have a go, this is what you will need -

Night and Day - Neil Walker

Hellooooo,

Welcome to a new week here on the blog.

This week we are featuring the same project but in two
different colours.  As you can see below the same image can
look so different when coloured in light and then dark.
So our theme this week is night and day.

Today we start with Neil and his night and day accordion book.

I love how the same design can look so different just by changing
 your colours.

I've made a simple accordion book; one side for day and the
 other for night.

Begin by stamping and heat embossing your image onto a light
and a dark base with black embossing powder. Glue onto Tando
Creative Media Boards and trim the edges.

For my day image I've coloured with bright and cheerful tones
using Distress Markers and a blending brush filled with water.

For my Night image, which was embossed onto a black paint
spattered card, I have used DecoArt Interference paints
to add a subtle colour and shimmer.

Construct an accordion for the inside and glue to the covers.

Paint the night side of the pages with Prussian Blue and the day
pages with a pale wash of the same.

Thank you Neil, I love that image!

If you would like to have a go, this is what
Neil used.....

Weekly Challenge

Helloooo,

Happy Sunday everyone, hope you are all having a great weekend
and enjoying the sunshine.
It's a bit cooler here in Surrey but if you can get out of the wind,
the sun is lovely and warm!!

I popped into the shop the other day and there some lovely
new bits in.
I particularly like the new Cardio stamps, Sandy and I
saw at Birmingham earlier this year. This is just a few
pics of the range.....they are lovely little stamps
perfect for building up a picture!

I've already bought some and will definitely be using them in
some up coming projects.

There are also some fun new Papier Mache shapes,
check them out here

How about a cheeky monkey...

or a pair of birds to decorate?

Ok, lets get on to the Weekly Challenge!

So what shall it be today......I think I am getting too predictable,
I bet you are all expecting me to say it will be something to do
with fishing......well it's not!!

Ha ha!!

I think we shall keep it to masculine, do I hear a groan??
Everyone hates masculine cards don't they!
Why is that?

So, I think it is going to be masculine pastimes, a hobby, sport,
gardening, vehicles, whatever you like but must
be masculine and suitable for a man/boy.  Of course, don't
forget the little men in your life.

As usual, you have a week to get your entries in, the link will
close at midnight on Sunday 26th April.
As many entries as you like and the winner will receive a £10
voucher.  A Random Generator will be used to pick
the winning entry.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Monday comes around so
quickly!

See you on Tuesday with the winner of our last
Weekly challenge.

Just adding this in for Linda as it is not showing!
