Saturday Savers: Background week - Neil

Saturday Savers
a dedicated day of stash using, recycling, upcycling and general planet saving!

Hello :-)
Saturday Savers today and Neil is with us to share the frame he got at a pound shop and altered using PaperArtsy stamps.

I have to confess that I am a charity shop/ boot fair/ junk shop/ pound store fan. They are rich picking grounds for goods to alter and they don't break the bank! For this weeks Saturday Savers I decided to work with this frame picked up for less than a pound.

I removed the top layer of pink card and used it as a template to cut my own piece out of white card to use as the base. I started by creating a background. One of my favourite ways of creating a layered background is by working with Distress inks and stamps. By stamping and blending the same colour on top (As you can see in this photo where I've stamped the image in Peeled Paint and blended the same over)

Once the first colour is done then do the same using a different colour. I used 3 colours to build up depth, Peeled Paint, Fired Brick and Walnut stain)
I then stamped the fish in Coffee Archival ink and coloured them with Distress Markers so you end up with something like this.

The main image has been stamped in black Archival and coloured in with Distress Markers, the background is Distress ink and a splash of Perfect Parl mist to add shimmer. Once it was all assembled I added the tokens to the frame and a couple of clear "dewdrop" gems to the glass to highlight parts of the image.

Neil used
Stamps LPC024 Paperartsy
Distress inks and markers - Peeled Paint, Fired Brick Walnut stain, Spun sugar (Marker only)
Perfect Pearl mist - Heirloom Gold
Archival ink - Coffee and Jet Black
Oriental coins (Woodware)

See you tomorrow
