Alpha/Dictionary Challenge 2016

Hi everyone,

An extra special post for you today, thought I
must show you what Neil has been
doing for this new Challenge!!

Neil says......

I started out making 26 little books each from
a single sheet of Tim Holtz Distress Cardstock
cut to 30 x 30 cm. Marking out into quarters.
Then starting from the bottom you cut the
3 blocks left and right side lines Leaving to
top block uncut. The middle line gets cut from
the top down the 3 blocks.

When cut and folded it looks something like this.
and I then glued where needed to complete
 my page inners.

One colourful pile of inners.

I cut thin greyboard to size and embossed it
before gluing on the inners to create my covers.
 Now we're ready to go....

First letter - B = Bohemian.
I inked up the cover with Distress ink.

Stamped inside and glued my defintion in place.

Then had fun illustrating the adjectives and nouns.

So, how about that for another idea for you??

I'm looking forward to watching this one grow.

Thank you for sharing this with us Neil!

I'll be back tomorrow,

Jane x

Alpha/Dictionary Challenge 2016

Good Morning all,

Welcome to the first day of our
Challenge for 2016, the.....

Alpha/Dictionary Challenge

I think, judging by your comments that
a lot of you remember this from before, in
2013.  It was very popular then and hope it
will be again.  Unfortunately if you look back
at the old posts, you will find many of the original
pictures are missing and I can't get them back.

So, to recap, we will go through the
whole alphabet, one letter every two weeks.
To keep you on your toes, we will not
be completing the challenge in alphabetical
order.  Ha ha!!

The DT will be playing along so I
will bring you some pictures from them too.

If you want to have a go, then this is
what you'll need to do......

If you want to use a Dictionary, then pick
something beginning with the letter of the week
and start playing!
Or you can use Tags/ATC's but they must show
the letter or word and the dictionary definition.
Please keep to whatever you choose for the whole
Challenge, so no switching from Tag to
Dictionary, to ATC etc, etc
You could also make pages for your Art Journal
if you prefer.

A new letter will be posted every two weeks
and you can enter via the usual link or
send your pics to me at
janecraftbarn@gmail.com
and I will add them for you.

Mr Random Generator will be called in to
choose the winner every fortnight and they
will receive a £10 prize voucher.

You can enter as many times and for our
followers outside the UK, please feel free
to use your own language, it doesn't have to be
in English!

So, let's get started.....

Your first letter is going to be

B

pick something beginning with the letter
B and start playing along.
Just remember please that you MUST
include the letter/word AND the
definition.

The link will be open for two weeks,
closing at midnight on Sunday 24th
January.  The next letter will also be
announced on that day.

This is something Karen made with
the letter B in our last challenge -
Blackberry

and Dawn -
Ballpoint Pen

Dawn has also added Butterflies

Here is one from Karen

Ok, hope that you understand all
my rules/instructions!
Not many rules as I want as many of you to
join in as possible!

And don't forget there will be a prize at the
end for a lucky winner who has completed and uploaded
every letter.  As before, everyone who finishes will
be entered and Sandy, the DT and I will pick
a winner to win a special prize!

So off you go and cracking, can't
wait to see what you come up with!

Jane x

Just popping in to add some lovely pics here....

Anne O

And this one, I have to tell you is from
little Eva in France who is 5 years old!
Bonjour and welcome Eva!!

Alpha/Dictionary Challenge for 2016

Our Challenge for 2016

Morning all,

It's almost time to start our Challenge for 2016.

If you remember, I asked you to look out
for a dictionary, one you wouldn't mind
altering!

Some of you will remember a similar challenge from
a few years ago.  It was so popular
that we decided to run it again!

If you haven't got your dictionary yet, don't
forget to check out those charity
shops and secondhand stores.  You'll
probably pick one up for not too many pennies!
Having said that, if you don't want to use a
dictionary, then we have called it the
Alpha/Dictionary Challenge
so that you can use other elements if you wish.
Altering perhaps....Tags, ATC's, Dominoes or
maybe even a Journal.  It must be obvious
that you have used the stated letter and
included its definition.

The Challenge will last the whole year
and will be posted every two weeks so
that every letter will be covered.

Just to keep you on your toes.....
it will not be in alphabetical order!!!
Ha ha....no getting ahead!

We will be starting on Sunday 10th
so do come and join us then!

See you soon,

Jane x

Ho Ho Ho - Karen

 Hi,
A little bit of "wow" today with this is gorgeous sample Karen made for us. I could really see this on my Christmas table. Truly beautiful.
Can't wait to read what you will say about it.
Karen used the Tando Creative 3D sleigh and PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints

I have made up the 3D Tando Creative Sleigh to kick start my Christmasing. Its a good size at 9" long by 7" high and is very sturdy. Also very easy to put together when you have decorated it! (Instructions come with it)
Great for those teensy presents to go in, strong enough for nuts and pretty enough to use as a table decoration.

I chose to use PaperArsty Paints in Snowflake and Ice Blue for the colour scheme. First I painted all the outsides in Snowflake then spread some DecoArt Modelling Paste through a Tando Mask- Dotted Star. I also added some Tando Creative Snowflakes. When it was dry I went over with the Snowflake again this time dabbing a little Ice Blue around as well. The insides were then painted with Ice Blue with a little Snowflake dabbed around. For the runners I painted with Snowflake, added PaperArtsy Crackle then Ice Blue. When the pieces were dry I added little spots of Stickles in Crystal to the raised star shape. I always leave these to dry overnight!!!
Some Treasure Silver was rubbed all around the edges and over the other raised bits then buffed with a cloth before putting the Sleigh together.

Stickles Glitter Glue - Crystal

See you tomorrow

Letter O winner and Wall of fame

Hi,
Ooooop, I guess I forgot to finish this post last week. I had started, I promise.. but did not schedule it.
When I tell you that everything was going wrong, I was not kidding!!
(thanks for the lovely messages on Saturday by the way, I'm feeling better now. Still bruised but the pain is gone).

I had a real hard time choosing for the letter O.
Here's how I proceed: I go and check/comment on all the entries and as I do so, I save my favourites. Then to do this post, I "reduce" the favourites to 5, right?
Well, this time, my "favourite list" still had 20 entries! that's nearly half of all the entries.
So I had to go from 20 to 5....
Please stop posting such good work each week, it's too hard to choose from. Just kidding :)
Keep it up, loving them all.

Can't believe that we are in September already, which means that this challenge has been going on for 9 months already! And some of you have been keeping up each and every fortnight! Well done :)

So here's the voucher winner for the letter O.
6:30 am here... a bit too early for my little human number generator, so I go with the Random one...

And the winner is.....

Please get in touch and I will send you your voucher ASAP

Now for the Wall of Famers.
We have newcomers, so I had to feature them today

Christina P from Greece (welcome :))
Lovely interpretation of the word OASIS

Shilpa from India (welcome :)) chose ONION

Carol from Kiwiland did this gorgeous OWL page

 Sara went for OCTOBER
Could have been Oak leaf too ;)

 Val chose ORIGAMI

Well done all of you! Whether you are a Wall of Famer or not.
Looking forward to seeing your next page.

For the newcomers, if you want a Wall of Fame logo for your blog, please email me and I will send it ASAP.

See you soon,
