Hot Melt Glue - Chris Dark

Happy Weekend everyone,

and apparently it's going to be a scorcher!!
How fantastic!!
Hope you have something fabulous
planned to make the most of the sunshine!

So, today is the last post for our
hot glue week!  Hope you have enjoyed the
projects so far.
Today we are very lucky to have the
lovely Chris Dark with us to show you
how she has used hot glue.

1. Stamp the main flower image in light
coloured ink onto a 4 x 4 inch piece of
 chipboard covered with white card

2. Using the stamp image as a guide add
dots of glue the centre circle of the flower

3. Continue adding glue until the circle is
completely covered. Any stray glue threads
 can be broken off

4. When first layer of glue has cooled and
set add another layer of glue dots to
create a dimensional domed layer for the flower

5. Paint around the flower in dark coloured
acrylic then paint in the petals followed
by the centre which may need a couple
 of coats for complete coverage

6. Outline the petals in white gel pen using
the stamp as a guide and then doodle,
dotted borders and flower centre, a stem
 and leaves.

Wow, I love this, I really want to feel
the flower!!  Ha ha I'm not really weird...
yes I also have to feel papers and smell
them too....bet I'm not the only one!

Thank you Chris.

So, if you would like to have a go, this
is what Chris used....

Don't forget to let us know what you think,
we always like to see your comments!

I'll see you tomorrow for our new
Challenge.

Hot Melt Glue - Neil Walker

Good morning all,

Hope you are all well and it's nearly
the weekend again!!  Hope you all
have something nice planned!

Well it is day two of our Hot
Glue week.  Neil is here to show you
another way of using it.  As well
as being an excellent almost instant adhesive,
there are other uses for this product....

Neil has chosen to use glue as a resist on
a cotton bag......

Take one cotton bag...

Draw your design on the bag using hot glue

Spray over the top using Misters...

Pick the glue off

Hey presto...beautiful bag!

How nice is that.....
I'd love to sit there picking all the bits
of glue off ha ha!!

If you want to have a go, this is what
Neil used -

Hope you are enjoying the sunshine,
I'll see you tomorrow,

Jane x

PS I apologise if this post is not centered,
for some unknown reason it is ok when I
type it but when I preview it, the whole thing
is on the right hand side and won't let me change
it!!  So your eyes are not playing tricks
but hopefully it will be ok ha ha!!

Hot Melt Glue - Dawn Heald

Hellooooo,

Woohoo, what lovely weather we are having
here in the south, warm and sunny and
perfect for all that washing we have to do....
don't you love the smell when it's dried
outside??

So, this week we are concentrating on
how to use Hot Melt Glue.
To kick the week off we have Dawn!

Over to Dawn.....

Hi there, this week I've made a larger
project. When doing these I tend to
split them into sections to make then
put them all together. Here I've recycled
 some packaging into a folder.

I love using hot glue to make stencils and
masks with, and this time I've also
used the actual hot glue Stencil on the project too.

Part one. Making the folder....

I took the cardboard packaging, folded it
into the shape a wanted it, cutting off
any pieces I didn't want. Then to neaten
the edges I used masking tape to stick
the sides together and along the single edges.
Next I glued torn book pages all over both
sides. Left to dry and put under some
 heavy books to flatten.
Then I used some gesso, water and brown
paint mixed together to paint a base all
over both sides. Left to dry.

Part two - Stamped Images...

Make a mask by Stamping and
cutting out image on plain paper.
Next I stamped a lot of the Woodware
Flowers In A Row stamp in rows. Masking
where needed.  Cutting around each top
of the image, for the front each
 row getting shorter each time.
I coloured the images in first with pens then
over the top with pencil. This way I knew
when I added Antique Linen Distress
Ink over the whole pieces, the
 coloured would resist the ink.

Part three - The Hot Glue Stencil/Mask...

I do it this way. You can easily just use a
heat proof mat if not using a drawing
 to copy from.
Draw out your design in pencil then
go over with black marker pen.
Tape this to your glass cutting mat or
heatproof surface. Then lay over the top
of it with a piece of parchment/non
 stick baking paper.
Heat up glue gun, with spare glue sticks to
hand, have a practice run first to get
used to the flow and glue spread etc.
Then use the glue gun like a pen and draw
over your lines to make your stencil.
 Leave to cool and harden.
It's not going to be perfect. You can trim
any parts you want to when cooled.

Part four - Putting it all together ...

I used my hot glue Stencil and paints to
decorate both sides of the folder. On one
 side I outlined with Pencils.
Then I Painted the actual Hot Glue Stencil. I
used Satin Varnish on both sides of the
folder. Let dry. I then added another pocket
from plain card, I was going to attach a
drawing pad on this side but changed my mind.
Then I glued on my stamped images and
Hot Glue Stencil. Finish off with some
gilding wax around all the edges and
over the hot glue piece. X

Well, how fabulous is this??
Another great idea for a gift!

Woodware - Jane Collman

Good Morning all,

It's Friday, nearly the weekend already
and our second post featuring
Woodware stamps.

Today it is me again.

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it,
I picked the Dragonfly stamp.
You know me and dragonflies!!
This has got to be one of my all time
favourite stamps....I've used it many
times and in many ways.  It is great
got using hot glue.....but that is coming
in another post haha!!

I started off by stamping....

Copics for colouring....

Cut out the extra bits you need....

Layer up some contrasting card.

Add some shadow to your dragonfly....

Colour the flowers....
(I kept them pale as I wanted the dragonfly
to stand out)

Colour, using same pens, around the
outside edge of image.

Add the cut out wings using hot glue,
this keeps the required shape and cools
quickly!

To finish add a little sparkle to
the wings...

This is a reasonably quick and easy card,
with the extra dimension, looks really
pretty!!

This is what I used -

I'll be back tomorrow with more
Woodware!

Advent Calendar - Neil Walker

Hellooo,

Well it's official, it's coming, getting closer
and nothing we can do about it!!
Yes that horrible word that begins with C.....

Christmas

This year has just flown by and Christmas will
be upon us really soon.

So this week we have decided to put in a
little Christmas post to get you thinking.....

Advent Calendars

The DT have been asked to have a play
so let's see what they came up with....
also we have Karen Gist with us on
Saturday with her amazing Advent Calendar
so you will have to wait for that one!!

Ok, we are going to start with Neil.
You are going to love this....

Neil says

I decided to make myself a crafter's countdown
advent for this year.

Cut 22 pieces of water colour card 14 x 10 cm
and 2 pieces 14 x 12 cm.

Take one of the larger pieces and attach one
of the smaller pieces to this with Tim Holtz
Tissue tape (or similar thin paper tape) Tape both sides.

Repeat this till you have a total of twelve
 pieces attached.

As you can see, you have created an accordion
 folded strip.

Repeat this with the remaining card so you end up
 with two.

Add a couple of strips of tissue tape to the
top of the top larger card. Punch holes and
reinforce with rings if desired. Take 4 x 25mm
book rings and 2 small clips and set to one side.

I've used an old rusty hanger to attach my folded
 cards too.
The clips are to keep the sections closed .
Like this.

Take your card and have fun stamping your
Festive fronts.

Stamp your small Christmas sign onto the card
(left side) and also on scrap paper to mask off
before stamping the background.

Add colour with Distress Inks masking off the sign

Add colour to the top sections of tape too.

Add detail colour using Distress Markers.

Stamp and cut out the balloon and sled
onto watercolour card and colour with markers.
Add to the right side with 3d foam pads.
Paint and die cut your advent numbers.

Add the numbers to each page.

Cover your clips with tissue tape. Cut 2
pieces of black card, slightly smaller than the
12 x 10. Round the corners and set aside.

Make a selection of Snowflake rosettes using
the dies. Add a tiny tattered rose to each.
 Use these to embellish.

I tied the hanger with ribbon to remove
the large empty area. Add a large
bow to the top and some snowflakes
 using a glue gun.

I glued a snowflake to each clip too.

Everything is now ready for me to enjoy a little
dose of Christmas crafting from the 1st to the
24th of December. Each day I can have fun
stamping and creating my design. I'll be
adding Christmas inspiration verses to each
page. The black card hides the unused page
until that day has arrived. Then, when Christmas
is here I will have a completed calendar full of
Seasonal inspiration that can be used over
 and over again.
