Dimensional

Dimensional

Today we have Dawn Heald  to
show us a beautiful bowl she has created:

I've made a shaped button bowl and I'll be honest it was meant to be a flower bowl. However, with a slip of my scissors and a couple plasters later, it changed. I'm overall pleased as these make handy little bowls easy to get at the contents.

You can make papier mache shapes using a variety of different sturdy objects. Just wrap in plastic wrap/cling film first to prevent the paper sticking to your objectives.

To make this project.

Choose object shape to use as a Mold. Cover with cling film first to prevent the paper sticking to your object. Tear small pieces of book pages and glue them all over your object. Build up as many layers as you like depending on how thick you want it. Leave to dry naturally.
Then remove object from the papier mache. You may need to cut down it to prise is off. If so simply use small pieces of book pages and glue back together. Dry and then trim and neaten edges to get shape you want. Neaten further by sanding and applying glue on very edge.
Paint all over with watered down white gesso

When dry apply colour all over using Alchemy Wax using sponge and or paintbrush.

Now make some embellishments with Shell Mold and paper clay, painted with Starlight Paint and Pink Alchemy Wax. Make some little fishes by Stamping Fish stamps onto Frosted shrink plastic, die cut, colour with clear sparkle pen and shrink with heat tool.

Back to the bowl, sponge edges and stamp the little asterisks all over the outside with Black Stazon Ink. Then add dots of White PVA glue all around outside. Dry.

Stick embellishments around outside of bowl. Add further decoration with buttons and Peacock Stickles.

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Hi there

Hope your week is going well
mine is flying by........... have lots
of birthdays this month so I'm
looking for all the inspiration  I
can get and today's project ticks
all the boxes

Without further ado let me present
another scrumptious project
from Angela Radford and here
she is to talk us through it:

Take two sheets of thin card and a sheet of wax paper. Screw the paper up into a tight ball then open it up and sandwich it between the two pieces of card.

Iron over the top of the card

The wax is transferred to the card by the heat of the iron and works as a resist which can be seen clearly when the distress inks are applied.
I also dropped water onto this which reacts with the distress ink to create the spots

I used the following stamps by Seth Apter to develop the design

to develop the design and then cut to size needed for the card

Next I took a sheet of acetate and cut this to size,                                 stamped the stars around the edge of it with embossing ink,                          added white embossing powder and heated it to create the border

I have also used a sheet of shrink plastic to create embellishments                       for the card using the star stamp.                                                               StazOn ink is best for this technique as it dries quickly on the slick surface. Colour these with alcohol pens.

I also added the star stamp to the card blank

We now have all the sections needed to complete the card

When putting these together I used narrow strips of the acetate to attach the shrink plastic stars which were mounted between the matting and layering.

 Here is the finished card

The sentiment was a stamp from my stash but could also be printed from your computer

A lovely card Angela, who knew
wax, paper and acetate could be such fun?!....

Thank you

See you tomorrow folks

PS  Please take a moment to give Angela some love and
let her feel that you enjoy her projects too

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Hi there!

A new week and a new theme.

We're going to explore Wax, Paper and Acetate

and to start us off on our journey here is

Louise:

I love this stamp from Carabelle Studios,
it reminds me of the Devon hedgerows around where I live
with so many beautiful, wild plants all jostling for a space.
I wanted to create a feeling of depth and so chose to use
acetate to give the project several visible layers.

Ink up your background using distress inks in different greens.
I used lucky clover, evergreen bough and twisted citrus.
You’ll notice in the photos I also snuck in some
tumbled glass blue at a later stage!

Stamp the Carabelle Studio Wild Nature stamp twice,
once in bundled sage distress ink, and then again,
slightly below, in evergreen bough.

Spritz with Color Bloom in sultry shimmer sorbet
to give it a beautiful sheen.

Work in to the picture using Sakura Gelly Roll pens
to add highlights and detailing to the stamping.

Gild the edges in Inca Gold Alchemy Wax.
This is easiest done by blobbing a little of the wax
on to a non-stick craft mat first and then
dipping a dry, clean cloth into it and dabbing it on.
At this stage I also stamped in some little butterflies
from Crafty individuals using wilted violet distress ink.

Stamp Carabelle’s Wild Nature stamp twice more,
this time on to acetate.
Stamp it once using jet black Staz-On
and a second time using Versacolor evergreen.
Sprinkle the green image with clear embossing powder,
tap off the excess and heat it to emboss

Use a guillotine to cut the black print in to a thin strip.
Do the same with the green print but
leave about 5cm of clear acetate underneath it
so that when the two bottom edges are lined up
the green print sits higher than the black one

Fold one end of the acetates and stick in place
behind the printed card panel using double sided tape

Place a strip of double sided tape along the edge
of the acetate with the green stamping and
stick the front piece of acetate to it,
leaving an overlap of about 1cm.
(Trust me, that sounds more complicated than it is!)

Finally, tape both pieces of the acetate to
the back of your printed card panel,
causing the card to form a curve.
This will enable it to stand easily as a 3D picture.

Materials used:

Distress inks– in bundled sage, twisted citrus, evergreen bough, lucky clover, tumbled glass, wilted violet
Versa colour ink pad – Evergreen

Thank you for your lovely project Louise

 Starts the week off beautifully

See you all again tomorrow

Advent Calendar

Advent Calendar

Hi there

Today we have the last in our Christmas Countdown
from Dawn Heald:

I have made an Advent Calendar box tower.
These little boxes can be built into different shapes too,
like a tree, one full wall of drawers or even just put together
in sets of three or four and built up the same way as I have done.
Once you have your build, you can decorate as you like,
simple or the full works.
I do hope you try this.
A layer of just four box drawers with the easel card on top makes a nice gift come greeting.

I used a score board to make mine which adds
the extra measurement needed for the box slider wrap.
If you are making this without one add on 2mm or 1/8th of an inch
to the measurements for the box wrap.

To make this project.
For the boxes, cut 24 pieces of card to measure 5" x 4".
Score in 1" on each side.
Fold along score lines then cut out triangles from the corner squares.
Glue these tabs and fold up and stick to make the box.
Cosmic shimmer glue is perfect for box making.
Grabs straight away, two presses and its dry.
Repeat for all 24 pieces of card.
The finished box will measure 2" x 3".

For the wrap/slider that goes around the boxes,
cut 24 pieces of card to measure 3" x 8".
Score along the long edge.
Make sure you fold, crease and burnish each score line
and butt this folded line against the edge of the board
before scoring the next line.
You need to score at 2" fold n butt then score 1" fold n butt,
then score at 2" fold n butt, then score at 1".
Repeat for all 24 pieces of card.

Then pop your box onto the wrap, fold up and stick flap into place.
By doing it this way ensures your box can slide in and out easily.

Next cut 7 pieces of card to measure 5" x 5".
These will be the foundation and provide a sturdy structure.

Now build the tower.
 Start with the 5x5 card.
Glue on 4 boxes around the edge.
Glue another piece of 5x5 card on top.
Then continue to build up in the same way till all boxes are used.

Time to decorate.
I used sprays to colour my card.
I would have done this before cutting up all the card pieces
but I changed my mind on the look after making the boxes.

I used Color Bloom Spray Summer Sky
and made a lilac one with alchemy wax,
Dylusions spray and water.
I edged everything with a blue pro marker.
Used buttons on the drawer fronts and hand written numbers
punched out with circle punch and layered on a punched square.

To make my topper I made an Easel card.
The background paper was from the overspray of the card pieces.

I used the latest JOFY 48 Xmas stamps
coloured with Distress inks for the feature,
and Tando Snowflakes as a stopper,
organza ribbon, clear gems and Detail sparkle medium for some bling.

Products Used:

Certainly a project to while away the weekend and
get you in the mood for the forthcoming Festivities

Thank you Dawn
