Street Art

Street Art

Hi there!

Loving the theme this week
today we have Claire Jackson
with a timely canvas

"The street art theme lends itself to something
a bit more grungy and masculine and the
Seth Apter stamps are perfect for this style.

You could use this technique for a decorative canvas
but I thought it would make a good clock background.

Prime a 20x20cm canvas with snowflake paint
and punch a hole in the centre

Use texture/embossing paste through a brick wall stencil.

I put it in three main areas and left the centre clear.

Paint the canvas in chalk and buff paint.
Make sure it’s completely dry before the next step

Place the stencil back in place and tape down.
Use a stencil brush to stipple paint onto the raised areas.
I used autumn fire, blood orange, claret and
chocolate pudding to build up a brickwork effect.

Don’t forget to extend the paint onto the sides of the canvas.

Gently rub a sponge with walnut stain and
black soot Distress Ink over the brickwork
so that it catches on the edges

Stamp the words onto tissue paper in yellow paint,
outline with a black permanent pen
and paint white paint on the back.

Stamp other images in black ink and add
paint to the back of the tissue.

Tear around the images to create a soft edge.

Decide where the tissue images are to go
and paint collage medium on the canvas.
Stick the images on and add a layer of
 collage medium on top.
Gently rub with a finger so that the
medium sinks in and the tissue becomes transparent.

Add more stamping in paint and darken the
edges further with Distress Ink.

I added in a little green to lift the colours.

When it’s all dry add the clock mechanism."

Materials used:
Thank you Claire for a
great project - one for
the boys!  Tomboys even!
Who says the menfolk
are difficult to create for?

Send them here, we'll
show them how it's done!!

'till tomorrow

Rice Paper

Rice Paper

Hi there!

Today is the last day
in the Rice Paper set.
Hope you have enjoyed these
projects as much as I have

Today's project will take
your breath away...........

Here is Hazel Harler to
talk you through her
gorgeous project:

" I needed to make a thank you card for a neighbour
and thought it would be nice to make a tea light card.

I searched the internet for a template and
found one made by Crafters Companion.
I cut the card and box from green card

I covered the card and box with a some pretty rice paper
and attached some ribbon and lining to the inside of the card,
then I die cut a window in the top of the box.

I glued a piece of acetate insideof the window
and glued the box to the card
leaving the opening for the tealights at the top

I lightly dry brushed some white acrylic paint
on the front of the card being careful
not to cover the birds.

The two flowers were stamped onto tissue
paper with black archival ink

I stamped some script onto the cover and then
cut out the flowers and glued them to the card.

I coloured a tag with watercolour and stamped the flower.
I'm going to write a note on this for my neighbour.
The box was filled with tea lights."

Many thanks Hazel.  I'm sure your neighbour
was delighted to receive such a lovely Thank You

This would make a really nice card/present
for every occasion.

'Till tomorrow

Bottled Up and Glazed Over

Bottled Up and Glazed Over

Hey there!

Thought I'd add another greeting
to my repertoire haha!

Did you all get loads of Valentine
Cards yesterday?  Roses?  Chocs?

Oh well, let us see what fun
Karen Gist has in store for us...

I have used an empty Whisky bottle for my project.

First cover the bottle with tissue paper using Gel Medium.

Don't worry about wrinkles as its all part of the look.

Cut rough squares big enough to stamp flowers onto
and some strips for the hair and paint using a mix of Fresco Paints.

I used Spanish Mulberry, Lavender, Smoked Paprika and Beach Hut.

To make the tissue paper opaque when glued onto the bottle
I painted the reverses in Chalk.

Paint the neck of the bottle in Sand and the rest in Blue Oyster.

Stamp the flowers from PaperArtsy
Eclectica ELB26 and EKC03 and cut out.

Attach to the bottle as shown using Matte Medium.

Add a litte sparkle using PaperArtsy Frosting Glaze.

Paint some more tissue in Smoked Paprika as before
and stamp the large flower head from Eclectica ELB16.

Cut out and snip away some of the petals as shown
and cover with Frosted Glaze.

I hand drew the face and painted it using the same colours as before
but you could always use a stamped image or a magazine face instead.

Glue the pteal strips to the bottle as shown.

Glue the face near the top of the bottle.

To make the hair cover the painted strips with Glaze and twist as it dries.

Glue these inside the top of the bottle.

Add some more petals to give a 'halo' sort of effect.

Add some beads as shown.

Supplies:

Love it Karen!  Thank you
for such a fun project.

Think I'll be smiling all day now

'Til tomorrow

Snowflakes

Snowflakes

Hello everyone,

Are your festive preparations well underway?
Parcels sent, presents wrapped?
Can't say mine are.........yet!

Here is a project from

Louise Thomson

to keep you wrapped up!

I love making home-made gifts to give at Christmas,
but why stop there?
Here is a simple project to make your own
wrapping paper and matching gift tag.

For the tag;
Die cut two tag shapes, one in white card, the other in acetate.

On the acetate, stamp the snowflakes twice in silver versa colour ink.
Sprinkle with embossing powder and heat emboss. Set aside.

Smear distress ink across your non-stick craft mat,
starting with the lightest colour

Spritz with water and then press your white card tag in to the ink.

 Dry with a heat gun.

Stamp the snowflakes all over the tag using Versacolour Neptune ink,
then add highlights to the snowflakes using the gel pen.

Stamp the greeting on a rectangle of white card,
doodle a border with a fine liner and
secure to the base of the tag.
Thread the two tags together with the acetate on top
using a selection of coordinating ribbons

Paint a Tando star using fresco finish Antarctic paint,
then smoosh in distress ink as with the base of the tag.
Doodle on to the star using the white Gelly Roll pen
and cover in a coating of Wink of Stella.
Cut out a snowflake from the scrap of acetate
and secure on the centre of the star.
Add silver pearl liquid pearls to it

Secure the star to the top to the tag to complete it.

For the wrapping paper;

Smoosh distress inks all over your non- stick craft mat
as before and starting with the lightest colour.
Spritz with water and move your mat around
to encourage the colours to mix together.

Lay your tissue paper over the top of the mat and press down.
Don’t be tempted to try and lift it back up at this stage as it will tear!

Use your heat gun to dry the whole sheet out -
you will see the colour transfer as it dries.
When fully dry, remove from the mat.

Stamp all over with JOFY mini snowflakes
using Neptune versa colour ink,
then add highlights with a white gel pen
and dot icicle stickles across the sheet.

When the paper is dry, wrap your gift,
tie with some pretty ribbon and add the tag
(NB: picture shows alternative version of tag)

Supplies needed;
Distress inks– tumbled glass, sketched blueprint, wilted violet, shaded lilac
Versa colour ink pad – silver, neptune

A lovely project to keep Santa's Little Helper
happy in the run up to the Festivities

Wonder what we have in store for you tomorrow?  See you then!
