Patchwork/Collage week - Karen

Hi,
Back to patchwork more than collage today with Karen who played with fabric to make this lovely vintage patchwork hanging heart. I could see that filled with lavender.. It would be lovely.

Whenever I see the word 'patchwork' I immediately think of fabric!!!!  SO I have made a pieced fabric heart in a 'shabby' style.
I started by cutting nine 2 inch squares from the calico then stamping from the Kaisercraft Porcelain Rose set using Archival Ink.  After stitching these together to make a larger square I cut out a heart shape.
I stamped the 'love' stamp on a scrap of fabric and sewed that in place before adding some beads.  The piece was then placed onto some plain calico and stitched around, leaving an opening for stuffing.  After it was stuffed I dabbed some ink around to add to the 'shabby' look before adding some lace, a ribbon and a tassel.

Fashion week - Gio

Hi,
When fashion meets practicality LOL.
What do you think of that brilliant apron Gio has created for you? And you know what she used for it?
A cotton bag!!
You have to be a Gio to come up with ideas like this:-).Here's how she made it...

I made an apron from a cotton bag.
Starting from the bag it means few cutting, few sewing and no measurements at all!

I unpicked the cotton handles and I opened up the bag cutting the bottom and one side. I laid the fabric on the desk. I drew and cut some large flowers from a book page. I glued them to the fabric using Claudine Hellmuth medium.
I scattered several stencils from Crafter Workshop and from Tando on the fabric. I started to spray several colours of Cosmic Shimmer Misters. I made the same for the handles and for the pocket.
I stamped here and there using Archival inks and Artemio Paisley stamp.
I coloured a piece of lace with the Cosmic Shimmer Misters. I glued it to the border of the apron.
I sewed the handles to a piece of rubber band and I inserted it into the upper side of the apron using a safety pin.
Tip: don't waste the mists on the stencils but clean them on some book pages, you can use them as background and to make cards.

Spring bouquet - Karen and Chris

Hi everyone,

Karen and Chris are with us today with more fabulous projects to share.
Karen will be first with a lovely (practical) sample: a comb holder using JOFY 11. Would not this be the perfect addition to your handbag?

I cut some Calico fabric (6x8" / 15 x 20cm) and randomly stamped a crackle pattern using Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid.
Using JOFY 11 stamp set, I stamped the flowers and butterfly using Memento Tuxedo Black.
The images are coloured in with Promarkers.
Then I went over the colours with clear glitter paint before adding some seed beads.
I made a little pocket for the back out of a piece of Calico cut 13/4 x5 1/2" (4.45 x 14 cm) and decorated it in the same way.
To assemble the pocket, tuck in a seam allowance of around 1/4" (0.65 cm) all round and stitch to the one side of the base as shown.
Now take a piece of scrap fabric for the lining (cut the same size as the base) and join together across the top.
Fold in half lengthwise and sew around leaving the bottom of the lining free so that you can turn.
You end up with a tube. Turn, then sew the bottom of the lining closed.
I added a ribbon to the back of my piece to wrap around the button as a closure.

Materials
Promarkers - Sky Blue, Honeycomb, Canary, Bright Green

--------------------------
Chris made a beautiful and colourful card and matching tag using Lin Brown's stamp set (02).

My first step was to create a sheet of card spritzed with Dylusions inks, one in green yellow tones and one in pink orange tones. I also created a masked background for the card by cutting a wavy line through a piece of card and using this to create a spritzed sky and grass. At this point I freehand cut out the pieces for the sun and cut some strips for the top of the tag.

I stamped the tulip head onto the pink and orange coloured card, cut it out then the stem and leaves were stamped onto the yellow and green coloured card and cut out. I cut a card blank and a tag, cut some of the yellow and green card for the background piece for the tag and stamped the butterfly in bottom right corner. I attached the backgrounds to the card and the tag and added some black and white pen doodling around the backgrounds and the sun. The butterfly was stamped onto some of the orange and pink card and cut out then shaped and attached at the centre over the previously stamped butterfly. The tulip was pieced together onto the card and to finish off I added the stamped word flora on the card and fauna on the tag which were stamped onto more of the spritzed card, I also added some glossy accents to the stamp lines of the both the tulip and the butterfly. Finally the strips of coloured paper were glued to the top of the tag.

Transfer Artist Paper week: cushion

Hello,
You know I have mentioned copyright issue beginning of the week with the Crafty Individuals images. Well, this goes with all images. It's not because it's online that we are allowed to use it.
So to avoid any trouble with anyone, Isa'sArt found a way, she used one of her own paintings.
Yes, I have mentioned it before, Isa is an amazing artist and her watercolours are truly beautiful.

Isa printed one of her paintings onto TAP paper, transferred it onto white cotton and made a lovely little cushion.

Transfer Artist Paper week: towel

Hello :o)

Michelle has been stamping, colouring, transferring and stitching for her sample today to make this beautiful towel for the bathroom. Doesn't it look fab?
Yes, you can use TAP paper on towels too and it will be just fine in the wash.
Here's how Michelle made her sample...

I love the WC stamps from Impression Obsession so thought this was a good way of using this stamp
.

To make the guest towel I stamped the image onto the TAP paper with versafine and coloured it with TH Distress markers.
Following the instructions I then ironed the image onto some calico cloth.
The text on the image was reversed so I inked up the text bit on the stamp and transferred the image to a hard brayer by rolling the brayer on the inked stamp.
To transfer a mirror image I then rolled the brayer onto the TAP paper, ant cut out the text portion I needed. The text was then ironed onto more bits of calico.
These I positioned in the right place on the image and stitched them in place, trimming close to the stiching.
Then the whole thing was stitched onto a guest towel, ready to hang in the bathroom next time my crafty friends come for lunch!

Transfer Artist Paper week: fabric

Hello,
Hope you had a lovely weekend. Are you ready for the back to school/lunch box routine? I guess the kids go back to school this week in the UK too.

Our talented DT has been working with Transfer Artist Paper, or TAP paper for short. This has been a very popular product at our last Extravaganza and we thought we would feature it for our blog readers too, especially for those who did not have the chance to attend our event.

TAP paper is a premium quality transfer paper that allows you to transfer images to virtually any surface with the heat of an iron. Although, I must add, that our team has had more luck with porous surfaces like wood, canvas or fabric than on non porous surfaces...

You will find the full detailed instructions inside the package, but here's a bit more about it:

- Inkjet print (only), paint, stamp, or draw images on to TAP
- Iron on to your surface
- Transferred images are crisp and colourfast
- Washable and crack-resistant on fabric
- Overlap transferred images for a layered or collaged look
- Try Silicone Release Paper for protecting your iron and ironing board (sample sheet included)

Today, we are going to start with using TAP paper on fabric with Jane and Karen.
Let's start with Jane...

The image is a Crafty Individuals 2 1/4" square which I scanned into my computer, flipped so that the writing would print correctly
and then resized to 6" as that is what I wanted the finished picture size to be....
This picture shows the original next to the new resized image printed onto the TAP paper.

I ironed it onto white Polycotton fabric and made my cushion. I was actually surprised how easy it was to use and how lovely
the image looked on the fabric. I made the little cushion by hand....couldn't be bothered to get the sewing machine out!

The image was decorated by sewing beads around it and a bow of ribbon and trimmings to finish!

Jane used:

White Polycotton

Now with Karen....

I stamped Crafty Individuals stamp CI-185 onto the Artists Tranfer Paper, then coloured lightly with Copic pens. This was then ironed onto some white cotton. I added some beads to the centres of the flowers before sewing this onto patterned fabric. I added more beads around the edge then frayed the white cotton. This was all sewed onto a base which was sewn into a lined pocket. More beads and a button were added. The 2x4 journal was decorated to match.

Artemio week: Tea cosy

Hi,

This week we will focus on Artemio, which offers a wide range of products: Stamps, fabric, felt embellishments...

The team has worked hard once again to come up with beautiful samples, which will hopefully inspire you.
Michelle will lead the way with a lovely tea cosy and a table mat.
Would love to hear what you think in a comment below.

I just got some fine woven calico and cut it to fit my tea cosy with a 1.5 cm seam allowance. I then stamped the Artemio stamps using Archival Ink. I have been told that Archival can be set with heat so I gave it a good going over with the steam generating iron..... here's hoping! I do know that Stazon is permanent and can be washed on a 40 wash so if this isn't fixed Ill stamp it again with StazOn... will let you know when i've washed it!

Here's the finished piece, I made a mat to fit my tea tray too - a modern take on a very British tradition!

To make her lovely sample, Michelle used:
Artemio clear stamps: London landmarks
Ranger Archival Ink pad: Cobalt and  Crimson

Our special offer this week: 10% off ARTEMIO stamps

Mosaic week: mosaic and fabric

Hi,
Here's Gio's lovely piece I mentioned yesterday. I guess they are not superstitious about breaking mirrors in Italy then LOL. I love the effect on the fabric though. Hope you like it too.

***
For this piece I decided to try hot embossing on fabric..and it works like a charm!
I took a piece of leftover of fabric, I put some Claudine Hellmuth Multimedium Matte on it spreading it with a paintbrush.
I cover with Cosmic Shimmer Ultra Thick Embossing crystals: copper, and I melted with the heat tool; when still hot I pour more powder, for 3 or 4 times. I wanted to stamp an heart, but since I don't have a stamp of that size, I cut out an heart shape from a piece of parchment paper, I adhered it to the fabric with some tape, I heat the powder again until melt and then I stamped, using the IO Cover a card Swirl stamp.

To make the hanger, I cut two piece of fabric one slight larger then the other, I tinted them with Distress Stain and Distress ink.
I prepared the mosaic decoration: I cut a triangle from an old book, whitened with Distress Stain Picket Fence, then I cut it in several pieces. I made the same thing using
CI Background Paper: Travel to Italy.
I glued down all the pieces using Claudine Hellmuth Multimedium Matte. I hand-stitched some little beads. I assembled the three pieces and I sewed them with the sewing machine.
For the scattered mirror: I put enough Claudine Hellmuth Multimedium Matte on the fabric, spreading it with a paintbrush, I laid the little mirror, then I covered it with a piece of fabric (to avoid scattered pieces on air) and then, using an hammer, I broke the mirror. At this point you can separate gently the little fragments until the glue is still wet.
I added some beads and fibers.
