For the Boys

For the Boys

Hallo Everyone!

All ready for half-term?
It does vary throughout the
country - however, in this
little corner of our green
and pleasant land the
holiday starts after school
today - Yayyy!!!

Here's an idea from
Jane Castle to enjoy if
the weather causes everyone
to be housebound - or even
if the weather is good .......

"Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by.
Today it's my turn to make a 'gift for the boys'
and I began with an inexpensive
wooden box, available from The Craft Barn,
 some paint, Seth Apter stamps
 and a few other bits.

The finished box I'm thrilled with but
there were times when I wasn't so sure!

I started by giving the inside a coat of
Fresco Chalk paint in Mushroom,
then when fully dry cut some dark red
felt and lined the base and lid.

Then I painted the outside in Space Cadet

The 4 sides were then painted with a
crackle medium and then once dry
given a coat of the mushroom paint.

The edges of the lid were lightly sanded
in places

I then applied some grunge paste through
a stencil to the top of the lid.

When the paste was dry I made a wash
of 1 part mushroom, 1 part space cadet
and 1 part water to go over the top of the lid.

Whilst this was drying I stamped my image
for the top and the opening part of the lid.
For this I used Archival Watering Can and
one of Seth Apter's new set of stamps ESA05
and stamped onto a sheet of waxed
 tissue paper.

Once the ink was dry I brushed some water
around the stamped image and tore the
paper as this helps when appyling the tissue
paper to the box.

I also stamped an edging to go around
the base of the box using 2 of the stamps
 from the same set.
(Great set of stamps--- so versatile)

These were then added to the box using
a matt glaze but could also be attached
 with a collage medium.

I left these over night to allow them to
fully dry before cutting through
the tissue with a craft knife to
allow the lid to open.

At this point I wasn't completely happy
with the image on the top. I sat gazing at this
for some time thinking of various options,
one being to skim over the top with a thin layer
of Grunge Paste and start again!

I added the border around the bottom of
the box whilst I made my decission.
I knew I still wanted to use the same stamp
for the lid so I thought I'd try stamping
another image but using Potting Soil ink
 this time.

When tearing the tissue paper this time
I made sure it was smaller than the
original one on the box.

I made a hole in the side of the lid to
thread my string through and added some
mushroom and space cadet paint to
2 screw head brads.

Treasure Gold wax in Olive Bronze was added
to the edges and now I not only like
the finished pencil box -
I don't want to part with it!

I plan to give it to a chap I work with
who comes from an arty family,
he makes wonderful things from metal
 and wood.
He does some sketches of his ideas first
but can never find his drawing pencils
or charcoal.

So thought I would buy him some lead and charcoal
pencils and pop them inside for his birthday.

Might have to make one for myself too!!"

Items Used

PaperArtsy Rubber Stamps
PaperArtsy Stencil

That is a super pencil box
Jane, Thank you.  Your
colleague will be a
happy chappie to receive
this - not so sure I would
put charcoal in it though
.....I know you said pencils
but I am lethal with charcoal
in any form..........!

Now a word to the wise Everyone
I know the Design Team all
chose to use this new set:

This new set is also available:

Indeed it might be worth checking
out all the Seth Apter stamp sets

For the Boys

For the Boys

Hi There!

Does making male oriented
gifts challenge you?  Do you
throw your hands up in horror
at the very thought?

Well worry not, help is at
hand this week.

We start with Angela Radford
and an old cigar box ......:

"Hi all, Angela here to show you how
I made this gift for the Boys using an
old Cigar box.

This is the outside as it was.

and this is the inside.

I started by giving it a thin coat of
Gesso and started adding the detail
using Grunge Paste and a variety
 of stencils

The inside was covered with some pages
 from an old book.

Next I started adding the colour using
 Paper Artsy Fresco Paints.

The top section is a piece of old
corrugated card. After peeling away some
of the top layer I started painting this too.

More paint around the sides to gradually
build up the colour. Once completed I added
gilding wax and a good coat of varnish.

And while that's drying I'm back to
the top section.

I stamped my chosen Seth Apter Stamp
onto card and heat embossed it

Using my glue gun I made a circle of glue
on a craft sheet and then stamped into
 it with another Seth stamp
 and Versamark ink.

I coloured some texture paste and
applied this to the top section.

Once this was dry, I went over it with
 Gilding wax then varnished it.

The main image was completed by layering
it on more card and added brads and cord.
The key is one by Kaisercraft.

The Glue gun circle was coloured with
Gilding wax and finished with a large
 black gem.

Top section was wrapped with cord
before the layers were added.

And here it is all mounted up including a
couple more Kaisercraft embellishments,
some tags stamped with more Seth Apter stamps
clear pebble and black gems complete the effect.

Just a few more photographs to show you
the finished box. Inside which was completed
with a text stamp and varnish.

One final look and I'm off! Happy crafting,
Angela xXx"

What a transformation!
Thank you Angela
for a gorgeous treasure box

I remember those cigar boxes
from way back when my Dad
smoked - the boxes held the
exotic tabac aroma for ever
Of course we shouldn't admit
to liking the aroma nowadays
but it does bring back fond
memories................
I wonder what happened to
the boxes .......

"Till tomorrow

Punchboard

Punchboard

Hallo Everyone!

Trust all is well in your
little corner of the craft world
Everything is good here
Mind you good weather is
always a help when it comes
to mood and inspiration .......

Speaking of which we have
Angela Radford with us today
and she has brought her new
Journal .........

"Hi all, Angela here today to show you
how I made this journal using one of the
Punch Boards.

I started by covering the paper with a
Seth Apter stamp using his paints by Paper Artsy.

Using the envelope Punchboard I then made
the pages to go into the journal

This must be the easiest and best envelope maker
ever and I've used a few!

The punch even finishes off the corners for you.

I was surprised how quickly I completed all of these.

My plan is to cover the pages with left-over
samples from the projects I've done using
Seth Apter products and use journalling
cards which will be kept inside the pockets
with notes of what I've done.

The envelopes are so easy to complete,
just fold along the score lines

Then stick the edges with glue, brilliant!

I made some small journal cards to fit in the envelopes.

Next I needed to make the cover for my journal
and cut the three pieces of card ready to start.

This is the card I used...recognise it?
What do they say? "Waste not want not"!

This is great card for journal covers.
Just make your order from The Craft Barn
and you may be lucky enough to receive one of these Lol!

Masterboard for the front cover using
Seth Apter paint and a Brayer

Place the card in position and stick down.

You may remember I mentioned this before
to score round the corners before folding over
which gives a good clean finish

Glue down the corners and edges.

And this is what it should look like at this stage.

Take another piece of Masterboard and a
slightly narrower piece of card for the centre
and glue these together. Wrap round the centre,
cord or elastic for as many pages as you
wish to store in the journal

Turn this over and glue down to the back
of the journal cover.

Next I stamped several images on left-over
Masterboard, coloured card and shrink plastic.

Now you are ready to start decorating
the front cover. I attached a cord at
the same time which would
be used as the fastening.

The flap of the envelope is used to insert the page
making it easy to take it out if you wish to work on it.

And here is the journal completed.
I included a few little gems, Tim Holtz embellishments
and shrink plastic pieces made with Seth Apter stamps.

Spine view.

More samples added but lots more will follow I'm sure.

Happy crafting, Angela xXx"

A truly super project Angela
thank you.

So Everyone; have you been inspired
to make a journal?

This you will all agree that there is a
lot more to any of the Punchboards
than first imagined .......

'Till tomorrow
