Paper Mash Up

Paper Mash Up

Hi There!

Brrr!  Autumn has arrived -
Chilly mornings, warm and
sometimes sunny days.
We shall soon have to
light the fire in the evenings
......now where did I put
that rug.................?

Helen Chilton is with us
today to show us what
she has made with those
bits of paper........

"Here are some Christmas decorations
using paper scraps from my
(very large) scrap stash!

Cut the shapes out of mount board.

Then get out your paper scraps -
I've chosen greens and blues for my tree

Cover the back with a larger piece..

....and then lay your chosen scraps
over the tree shape.

When you're happy glue them down with a glue stick.

Then flip it over and trim the edges -

much easier to do it this way than try to
trim each individual scrap to fit.

The end result is this.

I've used torn and cut edges on mine.

Here are the four shapes
all in different colour ways:

After that I did some stamping and embossing
in silver or gold tinsel embossing powder.

This is a Woodware stamp which I chose
because it has lots of different patterns on it
 - very useful.

Here you can see that I've stamped
fairly randomly:

For the edges I used the more textured powder -
Stampendous Frantage Embossing enamel
in either aged silver or aged gold.

After that it's time to embellish using ribbons,
 braids, bells, beads, buttons, sequins....

whatever you've got."

......and here are the final four:

The Star

The Tree

The Bauble

The Stocking

Woohoo!  We're on our way
to preparing for that December
Celebration......  Thank you Helen!

Whatever you celebrate in December
there's bound to be some decoration
involved and Helen's technique really
does lend itself to every occasion

'Till tomorrow

Gifted

Gifted

Hallo Everyone!

Hope August continues to
be a fun month for you and
if you are on holiday I hope
you are having a great time.
If you aren't on holiday
don't forget to take a minute
or two in the sunshine and
recharge those batteries........

Here is another fun way
to present a gift card from
Claire Jackson

The Laurel Burch stamps are really fun,
quirky and very versatile.

Stamp the image four times in Archival ink
on good quality watercolour paper or card.

Select three of the images and cut parts away
so that they can be layered later.

Take the final image and with a craft knife
make a cut in the centre, following along the edge
 of part of the design.

It’s difficult to explain but easy to see in the photo.

I measured my start and end points so that
they were a couple of millimetres wider than the
gift card for a snug fit.

Colour the images with watercolour pencils
and blend with a waterbrush or wet paint brush.

Repeatedly stamp the background in wilted violet
Distress Oxide ink to cover the card blank.

I have used an Impression Obsession Cover a Card
stamp  here

Mount the images.

I used only one strip of tape on the bottom
of the last two images so that the top edges lifted
 to create added dimension.

Unfortunately it doesn’t show well in the photograph.

Add a sentiment to the front...

...and the gift card holder to the inside."

Materials used:

Stampendous Cling Rubber Stamp - Laurel Burch: whiskers
Water colour card
Ranger Archival ink pad: jet black
Watercolour pencils
Card blanks 5x7
Distress Oxide: wilted violet
Impression Obsession cover-a-card: gradation

Thank you Claire - that really
is a clever way to present the
gift card.

I just love those stamps, don't you?

'Till tomorrow

Apple for the Teacher

Apple for the Teacher

Hi there!

Oh my, just look what I've got
for you today ............. I hope you
find this as inspiring as I do,
especially as it is a new technique
(to me at least!)

Helen Chilton is painting bottles
but with a difference .......

For my 'Apple for the Teacher' post,
I've decorated a small Kilner bottle.

You could put what you like in there:
vinaigrette, olive oil, flowers etc.

Clean your bottle thoroughly with
blending solution.

Stamp the Laurel Burch leaves with VersaMark
and sprinkle with fine detail black embossing powder.

Don't worry if it looks like this,
just blow on it sharply and....

....hey presto! The excess powder comes off.

Make your own glass paints by dropping
some alcohol ink into a blob of
 DecoArt Triple Thick Gloss Glaze.

You can then blob it into the design.
It'll stay where it's put.

You can also mix the colours while still wet -
I'm adding some Pool glaze to the leaves.

If you paint on the glaze and the colour's not
intense/dark enough, just add some more
neat alcohol ink directly on top.

Stamp and paint a tag in the same way.

Finish with string round the top of the bottle
and tie on the tag"

Materials used:
Small Kilner bottle

Thank you for a super project Helen
I can see these being used for all
sorts of occasions

I do like the idea of making your own
glass paints - and you can dye the
string to match any of the colours
you use too!

'Till tomorrow
