Make your own Mask/Stencil - Dawn Heald

Hellooooo,

Happy Weekend again everyone!

Hope you are going to do something nice
although I don't think BBQ's are going to be a
good idea!!

Well, it is day 2 of our making your own
Mask/Stencil week.  I'm sure you will find they
are quite easy to have a go at and our DT
are showing you two very different ways
of making one.
Do have a go and let us know how you
get on....we love to know!!

So, Dawn is here with us today to show you
what she has been up to!

Hello Crafty friends, For our topic this week
it was a case of what technique shall I
choose. So many different ways of
creating your own stencils and masks.
I decided to make mine using my glue gun.
I got carried away and made a huge pile.
This way I got used to the glue gun and drawing with it.

I do have the pink Stix 2 glue gun but couldn't
find my refills so I used my large one.

Things to remember when using hot glue gun
to draw with, besides don't burn yourself,
use something heatproof underneath.

Flat surface will mean your stencil bottom will
be flat and place lovely on your surface
 afterwards.

Do some test squiggles as I found if my gun
was at its maximum and been sat a few
minutes the glue came out bubbling and the
 glue lines spread out.

Hold Tip away from surface like icing a cake.
The glue will follow the direction you go in.
If you want, draw your design and place baking
paper or similar on top. This is what I did for
 my main design today.
Use with paints, inks, sprays, any colouring
medium, it works and it's washable
 too. I tested this part.

So onto my project. I've decorated the Frisbees
that are on the website. Yes they work
fabulous and the paint didn't bleed or spread
out. At a bargain price this is a fun
 substrate to work with.
Take your glue gun and when it's heated,
 have a practice play first.
I had drawn my main design just freehand and
put underneath some baking paper. Following
the design I copied over it with the glue gun.

Next I got out various colours of Pebeo Fabric
suede effect paints and used stencil brushes
 to stencil with.

I was bit heavy handed but
wasn't worried about the less than

perfect outcome. I filled in the white parts
with the dark Turquoise paint.

Left to dry and voila, all done.

What a brilliant project.  Thank you Dawn
and thank you for all the good tips on using
a glue gun.  Do have a go!

Weekly Challenge......
hmmmm.......wonder what that will be??

Bags of Decoration - Dawn Heald

Happy Weekend,

Hope you have got a fabulous weekend planned!
We have a fabulous post here for you today.....

You are going to love this,
Dawn is here today to show you her Bags of Decoration,
it is beautiful!

Dawn says -

"I've got out the Pebeo Seta Suede paints and got stencilling and
stamping to make a little bag. I've started with the white cotton
bag from the website and after decorating it I've basically folded
it in half and sewn it up. Shortened the handles
and re - sewn on!

When thinking about what to do with the bag, there are
a few ways to make a different shape of bag with only simple
sewing needed. You could also push up from the bottom and
make a lined bag that way with a pocket.
See what you make with yours.

To begin, wash, dry the cotton bag. Don't use fabric
conditioner. The idea is, you're getting rid of the primer to enable
the paint to adhere properly.  I've missed this step before
now and it does make a difference.

Start by getting a base colour to your bag. I tied the bag into
small rolls and twists with string. Then I made a mix of the
fabric paints and water like thin cream. Blue first then lilac.
I used a sponge to apply the colour.
 Leave to dry.
Then with stencils and a stencil brush I  applied the
fabric paints creating a design all over one side. I did
 one design at a time.

Then I added dots of Pebeo white 3d paint from the tube.
 Leave to dry.

Whilst drying I painted some fabric flowers with the same fabric
 paints used on the bag.

Then with Stazon inks I stamped some small designs to fill the areas
 as shown in pictures.

I left it to dry thoroughly and then turned bag inside out and
used an iron to set the paints.

Then I folded the bottom edge up towards the top and
stitched the two sides together at a size I liked.

 I made
the handles smaller and re stitched them on.

To finish I added some seam binding and buttons as
decorative embellishments and the flower corsage.

I really enjoyed making this bag and must say
thank you to my mum who helped me use her
machine. However it is easy enough to hand sew
 the sides together".

Told you it was great project....

Autumn leaves - Karen

Hello,
Another card today with Karen this time who used the Tando Creative with the Pebeo Acrylic in autumn shades. She also used Sparkle Medium on her background to add a touch of shimmer.

I love Autumn and nothing is more fun to me than crunching the leaves underfoot!
For my project I have used the tall leaves by Tando Creative. I dabbed them with a mix of Pebeo High Viscosity paints until I was happy that they looked the right colours. While they were drying I got to the background. I used a piece of coffee card, stamped the Cover-a-Card Woodgrain stamp in Brilliance Gold before adding some Sparkle Medium through two Tando Masks. When it was all dry I assembled the pieces as shown, adding a bit of matching ribbon and a copper brad from my stash. The background has been mounted onto green card as has the PC generated quote, which I love!

Here is a close up to show off the sheen this card has...

Karen used:
Tando Creative - Tall Leaves (set of 4)
Impression Obsession Cover-a-Card - Woodgrain
Pebeo Studio Acrylics - Green Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Primary Magenta and Cadmium Yellow
Imagination Craft Sparkle Medium - Bright Red
Brilliance Dewdrop Ink - Galaxy Gold
Cardstock - Coffee and Mint

See you tomorrow

Touchy feely week - Karen

Hi,
Karen is with us today with a handmade little book bound with the Bind it All. Karen added texture to her cover with the Imagination Crafts Sparkle medium and the Crafty Individuals mask, which gives a beautiful dimensional glittery effect.

I used the backing plate from the Tando 6x6 picture frame and glued the word 'art' in the centre.
When that was dry I painted it with Pebeo Studio acrylic paint Buff Titanium before brushing over PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints in Claret, Guacamole and Beach Hut.
Before it dried, I dabbed it with a scrunched up kitchen towel which lifted and moved the colours around a bit.
Using the Crafty Individuals mask (Floral Frame) I stencilled Sparkle medium on top and added Crackle Accents to the word.
Brilliance Dew Drop in Rocket Red was wiped around the edges before making up the book with my Bind It All.
I used thick watercolour paper for the pages, the back is painted plain.

Crackle Accents
