Red and Gold

Red and Gold

Hi There!

Today we are continuing our
theme with a beautiful card by
Claire Jackson

Check this out:

For the red and gold theme I had to get out
my lovely Viva Decor Maya Gold paint.

The Maya Gold paints are great to work with
and extremely sparkly.

I’m not sure the photos do them justice.

Colour a 5” x 5” square of white card with Distress Ink,
beginning with scattered straw and wild honey in the centre,
adding festive berries, picked raspberry, barn door and
aged mahogany outwards.

Darken the edges with walnut stain.

Use masking tape to fix the stencil in place.

Gently sponge on gold paint in a light tapping motion
to prevent paint leaking under the stencil and leave to dry

Emboss a 5 ½” square piece of card and colour with shades of red Distress Ink.

With a sponge held flat gently highlight the raised areas with gold paint

Add a ribbon to the stencilled layer, hiding the edges underneath

before matting on to the embossed card

and adhering to a card blank

To finish the card add a sentiment die cut from gold mirri card

and metallic stickers to the centres of the flowers

The colours are so rich and warm
This card would brighten anyone's day

Thank you Claire

Not sure I would be able to give this card away
Well, that is, unless I made two.
Then I could keep one just for me...........

See you tomorrow

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Wax, Paper & Acetate

Hallo!

Woohoo! It's the weekend and we have another
awesome project to share with you, so go get
yourself a cuppa and make yourself comfy so
Claire can step you through her winter diorama

Cut four 5.5" x 5.5" squares of heat resistant acetate.
Stamp the buildings in Archival ink onto the first acetate
and heat emboss with black embossing powder.

Stamp and emboss images onto each acetate to build up a scene.
I planned the positioning on copy paper first.

Stencil snowflakes in white paint onto the reverse of each acetate.
Paint the candles and flames in the lanterns

Cut a 5.5" x 5.5" background in blue card.
Use paper piecing to build up a path across the hills to the church.

Apply Alchemy Wax with a cotton bud in a circular motion
to the reverse of the lanterns.
Add a little to the embossed side of the acetate too.
Add glitter glue to the branches, lanterns and hills

Cut a strip of card 5.5" wide and score it at 3/4 " intervals.
Concertina it to create 10 zigzags and cut off the excess.

Emboss white card with a texture embossing folder and cut a square 7" x 7". Cut a 5" x 5" square from the centre to make a frame.
Highlight the raised areas with wax.

Die cut snowflakes and stamp the matching design in wax.
Apply the wax to the stamp with a sponge.

Stick the sides of each acetate to the folded card.
Add the frame to the front and another 7" x 7" square to the back.
Stick the snowflakes on the frame.

The snowy hills on the left hide a little electric tealight.

Did you enjoy that as much as I did?  Of course you did!

Thank you Claire this is stunning

See you all again tomorrow

Honey Bee Day - Rachel Snook

Huge apologies, think my brain was waterlogged,
this post was already to go out this morning but
I must have managed to not press the final publish
button.......aaaagh!

Hi everyone,

Hope no-one is flooded out.....gosh as I finish
this post, how bad has this weather been??
Where is the heatwave they promised us??

I suppose after living in this country 50+ years I
should be used to it haha!!

Well, this week, if there any left, not drowned,
is National Honey Bee Day and in
honour of these highly
important little creatures......
(although I'm not sure Siobhan in the shop would
agree at the moment, after receiving a nasty sting
this week), we are focusing on bees in our projects.

Today is Rachel's turn -

Rachel says -

I used the Pollyanna Pickering Foxglove
cardmaking set.
I cut a card blank from stamping card using
the step card cutting die.

I then took one of the card inserts from the pack and
die cut another card shape and attached this to the
white card base.  This gives a soft background
ensuring the bee was at the top.
Using the rest of the insert, die cut the scalloped
rectangle and side dies from the the inset.
I took one of the topppers, trimmed it slightly
and stuck it the rectangle using double sided
tape.
With the side strips, I placed contrasting burgundy
ribbon, sticking on the back of the strip with tape
before fixing onto the side panels.
I also placed a piece of ribbon around the lower section
of the card and covered the join with a small bow.
I then attached the picture element to the
front of the card just below the background bee
and above the lower ribbon.
You may find it easier to do the lower ribbon
after you have attached the picture.

To finish I die cut a sentiment using
Crafters Companion Word Sentiment Dies
'With Love' from black glossy cardstock.
This was stuck using small dots of glue.

Using a Hexagonal die and folded cardstock,
place the thinlit on the cardstock with one cutting
edge just over the fold.  This will not then cut
on that edge and give you a hexagonal shaped card.
If you do not do it on the folded edge, it won't work!

With the same hexagonal die, cut a piece of the
glossy backing paper from the kit, which is a soft
yellow/mustard colour with soft dots on it.
This was attached to the card giving the illusion of
a honeycomb hexagon.

I then took a scalloped circle framelit that was
slightly larger than my embellishment but
smaller than the card front and die cut from
black glossy cardstock.

Using the circular topper with the bee, I mounted
this onto the black card with double sided tape
and then the topper was attached to the card
with foam tape to add dimension.

Finally, I took a tag element for the kit
and made a matching gift tag!

Thank you Rachel.

You get quite an assortment of elements in these
packs which always makes them good value!

Ok, I'll be back tomorrow with another project,
see you then,
