The Song Challenge

The Song Challenge

Happy Sunday!

This month's challenge
reflects the changing season
Autumn is upon us and the
turning leaves form a
kaleidoscope of colour
on the ground

Obviously, the song had
to be

Autumn Leaves

The falling leaves
Drift by my window.
The falling leaves of red and gold.

I see your lips,
the summer kisses,
the sunburned hands I used to hold.

Since you went away
the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter song

But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

Since you went away
the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter song

But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

I like this one best performed
by Eric Clapton
BUT
There have been many other
artists who have recorded this
timeless classic

So, autumn leaves it is
however you may wish to
depict them

Here's Karen Gist's coaster:

Paper Mash Up

Paper Mash Up

Hi Everyone!

All the little darlings must have
started or gone back to school by
now and the bigger darlings off
to Uni......................  You'll be
wondering what to do with
yourselves!

Well, how about something to
make you smile every time you
use it?

Here's Karen Gist with a really
gorgeous makeover for that tray...
.........

"I have had this blank tray knocking around
my craft room for years wondering how
to decorate it! When Mickie gave me
the prompt I thought it was perfect
for it...using up those bits of
pretty papers that we crafters dare
not throw away!

Firstly I covered the tray with a coat of gesso.
Then I tore my papers into pieces so that the
'white' edges were on the right sides.

Using Fresco Chalk Paint I painted the
inside edge in Smurf.

Cutting some of the papers so that I had
some straight edges I started glueing them
onto the bottom of the tray using a
thin PVA glue.

With the torn edges you don't get so many
lumpy bits and you can see that I wanted
the white edges to show as a contrast.

I had some paper left over so I made
some coasters as well!

I always cover the bottoms of my coasters
with felt to give more insulation.

Back to the tray:

The edges were painted in Fresco Tango and,
when dry, I doodled some spots around.

The sides and bottom of the tray have been
painted with Guacamole.

When its all dry add a few thin coats of satin varnish.

All ready to go! A cheerful tray for my
morning cuppa!!!!"

Materials Used:

Papers from your stash

Thank you for such a cheery
project Karen and to make matching
coasters is pure crafty genius!
Winter is coming and this tray
would cheer up any gloomy day!

Come to think of it, I have one of
those wooden trays on my desk that
I've never done anything with other
than use it as a general dumping ground
for junk!  Like everyone else I also have a
tonne of papers I just cannot part with
................  anyone see a plan here?!!

'Till tomorrow

Fabricated

Fabricated

Hallo Everyone!

I'm quite excited to have
Karen Gist here today with
another of her fabulous
creations so without further
ado, over to you Karen:

"Hi, I have chosen to decorate the Cotton
 Carrier Bag for this project.
What a fantastic bag this is!!!
Its made of sturdy cotton,
is a good size and has a zip...I love it!!!!

To start - stamp the sunflower from the
PaperArtsy set ELB24 on some scrap paper
and cut in half.

Enlarge it by using a photocopier or your
scanner software and print out.

Now trace the image onto your bag.
I chose the sunflower but you could
use any stamped image this way.

Paint your image.

You can see by my photo that these
Starlight Paints are super shimmery!
They have a lovely consistency for fabric too.

Punch shapes into some fairly stiff card
 to use as a stencil.

I used a Woodware scalloped circle but you
could use any shape you fancy.

Dab paint through the circles randomly
over the rest of the bag.

Add some other circles by dipping a bottle top
 into the paint.

Heat set all the paint using an iron then doodle
around all the shapes using waterproof pens.
(I used Uniballs for this)

Sew some ribbon and braid across the top of the bag
and add buttons to the small circles and
 large buttons to the handles.

Tie a length of ribbon to the zip pull and you are done!

Supplies used:

Ribbons & Buttons

Karen your bag is just
right for the summer.
Thank you very much for
a lovely project

I'm going to have to make one
of these - I can just hear people
asking me where I bought it

Hmmmm..... pocket money opportunity?.....

'Till tomorrow

Quirky Birds

Quirky Birds

Hallo Everyone!

It's the last topic for April.
We start the month with
All Fools Day and it seems
fitting to be ending it with a
laugh, a giggle or a smile
and these quirky little birds
from Joggles fit the bill
perfectly.

Karen Gist is with us today
with a super little wall
hanging:

"Using an old credit card spread some PaperArtsy
Spanish Mulberry and Smurf across a
Tando Creative Coaster.

Add some smudges using a scrunched up
paper towel and some white acrylic.

Stamp the Joggles Quirky Birdy #2,
colour in with Derwent Inktense pencils
and cut out.

Doodle a wiggly line around the edge
of the coaster and colour in using the same
colours as above.

Stamp the Funny Bones stamp onto
tissue paper using Stazon and when dry carefully
tear around it.

Add to the coaster using matte medium.

Attach the bird and some wire and beads."

Materials used:

Oh that is such a fun piece
of Home decor Karen, thank you
so much for starting the week
with a bit of fun

Good to laugh out loud isn't
it Everyone?  Makes the whole
world seem a brighter place....

'Til tomorrow

Boxing Clever

Boxing Clever

Hallo Everyone!

Are you all ready for the
long holiday weekend?
I'm hoping for good weather,
long walks along the prom
with my camera and maybe
a leisurely trip into the
countryside to see whats
occurring.  On the other hand
if the weather is not up to
scratch then I might just
do some painting and...
no, not decorating!  Crafting!!

Karen Gist is here today
along with some Zinsky
cuties:

"I just love these and so wanted to
use them on this project!

Stamp, colour and cut out the figures
adding a few extra heads.

I used Copics to colour them.

To make some background paper paint
some PaperArtsy Smurf and Sugar Plum
onto white card, adding water to help it blend.

When dry stencil some white hearts on top
and doodle around them with a white pen

Glue each cubbie together (they make up very easily)
Then paint them inside and out.

Glue the boxes together and doodle
with a white pen to add some definition.

Add some of the background papers to the 'solid' boxes.

Attach the figures, using the heads to show
peeping around from the back.

I then added a made up quote."

Supplies:

PaperArtsy Zinsky Stamps

Thank you Karen - a super,
smiley, project!  And you are
right; Crazy friends are good
for the soul - I love all of mine!

'Till tomorrow
