Boxing Clever

Boxing Clever

Hallo There!

How are you?  Feeling chirpy?
Hope so, I have a really nice
project to show you today by
Hazel Harler.

She has brought Spring
with her. take a look at this:

"Hi everyone, I have a decorated papier
mache box to share with you today.

I started by giving the box a coat
of white gesso, then I stencilled some
script using a Carabelle Studio stencil
and some modelling paste.

I crumpled some tissue paper and
adhered it to the spine then I painted
it with some plum Fresco paint.

I painted the rest of the box with taupe,
plum and captain peacock Fresco paints,
I also added some plum splatters.

Using my finger I lightly added some
 Imagination Crafts white gold
Starlight paint.

I adhered some patterned tissue paper that
I found in my stash to the sides of the
box and stamped some Paperartsy leaves
 with apple green Starlight paint.

I decorated the box with a wooden
leaf spray, Forever In Time burlap daisies
and some pearls, I also tore some
birds out of the tissue paper and
adhered it to the box."

I will have to make this one Hazel
It is a good design and I love the
techniques and colours you have
used.  Thank you very much

I'm sure you will agree that this
is an awesome project

"Till tomorrow

On the Case

On the Case

Hi Everyone

Enjoy the weekend won't you?
I am sure you don't need reminding
that it is back to normal next week

Certainly i have enjoyed getting to
and from home in relative ease and
calm - it will be back to planning
my journeys now the schools are
back ..............

Jane Castle is here today with a
great storage idea.........

Well this was a theme that could lead to
many different crafting projects but
I decided to make my 12yr old Granddaughter
a case for her to keep her ear-rings in when
they are staying at their caravan.

I wanted to keep it fun and felt these new
Whimisical Birds from Tando Creative
really fitted the bill.

I began by giving the larger of the 2 mini
book boxes in the set a coat of black paint
both inside and out.

Then cut a strip 10cm off the top from
a sheet of Kaisercraft 12x12 paper.

This 10cm strip was then stuck onto a piece
of white card to give it some extra strength.

Starting at the end with the wild flowers
 I made the following score lines;
1.5cm score, 2cm score, 1.5cm score,
 1.5cm score, 2.5cm score, 1.5cm score,
 1.5cm score, 2cm score 1.5cm cut.

These score lines were then folded forming 2 areas
for the ear-rings to sit in.

 Although these measurements worked for
my box they might need slightly adjusting
as I'm not sure as to whether these boxes
 match exactly size wise.

This was then placed inside the book/box
and the 2 ends glued in place.

Now onto the bird for the top,

the face and legs were given a coat of Nougat paint
and the body a coat of Very Berry.

The eyes were made from circles punched from
some scrap blue card and then black gems for the centres.

The beak was cut from some pale yellow felt and
faux stitching was added using a fine nibbed black pen.

The body was stencilled using a sponge and
Cosmic Shimmers Chalk Blending Ink.

The feathers on the top of his head had
Enamel Accents applied.

The legs had Enamel Accents for nail varnish
and the stripes were added using a Sakura Pen.

Finally the wings were given a coat of Wisteria paint,
then stamped in Archival Watering Can
and heat embossed with clear powder.

Before attaching the wings I added some
Treasure Pewter to the edges.

Using the same stencil and Blending Ink
I added some decoration to the corners of the lid.

The blending ink dries a lot lighter on the black
background but you could always give it a
second coat if you wanted it to completely match.

The centres had some Enamel Accents added
and to finish I rubbed the edges of the book with
 the Treasure Pewter.

The ear-rings my Grandaughter likes to wear
are quite small but I decided to pop a few pairs
of mine in just to check it worked ok !

I think she will be spending less time searching
around for lost ear-rings and more time belly boarding
on the beach.

On the Case

On the Case

Hi There!

Here we go into the new month
with a beautiful addition to our
storage theme.

Take a look at
Angela Radford's project below
and decide whether or not
you could bear to part with it....

"Angela here to show you what I've done
with these gorgeous little boxes but first the
background paper using Distress Oxide inks.

Before I started adding the background paper
I covered the edges of the box with ink and
left it to dry.

Next, cut a strip from the background paper
wide enough to go round the heart box but don't
worry if it's a bit wide as I will show you how
I finish it later.

Now stamp your chosen images to decorate the paper.

Now attach it to the box.

I like to do this a little at a time so it is nice
and firm round the box, spreading the glue to
 ensure good coverage.

And here is my method of finishing the edges
once the paper is stuck down.

Take a file and rub the edge upwards away
from the box and this will remove the excess paper
leaving a lovely smooth finish.

The edges may need inking again at this stage.

The lid is next.
Cover this in the same way as the box.

Couldn't resist a bit of grunging here!

Always a relief when the lid fits.
It's better not to use card for the outside as it
may be too thick and then the lid may not
fit which can be very disappointing Lol!

Decoration next but as usual I wasn't quite
sure so cut more flowers than I needed
but they will always come in handy
 for another project.

The yellow card was actually left over from
 an earlier project.

Edge the flowers next and then you will
have to decide which ones to use!

I decided to make two small roses.

Such a tease! Better show you more.

Well this is the top, almost finished.
I added the ribbon too.

But decided it needed dew drops
which were drops of Glossy Accents.

Just a few more photographs and then I'm off!

Close-up of the flowers.

And the back too.

Happy crafting, Angela xXx"

Materials used:

A beautiful box Angela
Thank you

Dare I say, beautifully grungy?
Perhaps not but I am sure
you all know what I mean

As to whether I could bear to part
with it..............NO! I could not

Anything Goes.....Dawn Heald

Hi folks,

As we approach the end of the year,
I have given the DT a bit of time
to recharge their batteries!
I don't know how they manage to
come up with so many wonderful
projects week after week!
So I've asked them to pick a few
projects that they particularly
liked making for you.....

Here is what Dawn said -

"My altered Paper mache shoe. I wanted
to make a shoe fit for
my young daughter, Katie. She claimed
 the shoe as soon as
it arrived. I also wanted to do something
different and something with no flowers.
So here's my Butterfly Katie Shoe.

Cover shoe with Dreamweaver Pearlescent
Embossing paste. For parts
that need a lot of filling where surface
 is uneven, use white
tissue paper over it, then blend in with
 more paste. I started with
a plastic spatula then moved onto using
my fingers to smooth out.
It takes a bit of time but worth the effort.
I did it in stages and
did two layers. A tip, if paste is starting to
dry to get a really smooth
finish use a wet finger. I used a brush
 for the inside.

When dry, die cut swirls from double sided
 adhesive sheet. Stick around
the shoe. Peel top protective layer off
 and cover with Distress Glitter.

Press and lightly rub into sticky
as the particles
are larger. Brush excess off with a dry
 soft brush. Then use
a clear iridescent glitter and sprinkle over.
 This catches any tiny
patches of sticky left un-glittered. Sweep
over dry brush again to
 clean shoe of excess glitter.

Next decorate shoe with clear gems as shown.
Then cover with gloss varnish and let dry.

Stamp and emboss in silver the main butterfly
 stamp once and the
 small butterfly four times.
Paint butterflies with Turquoise and Magenta
 Mixed Media Misters and water.

Cut out.

Add to shoe as shown, along with ribbons.
Then add some more gems and pearls
coloured with Duck Egg Pro Marker.

The front bow is plain ribbon coloured
 with Promarkers and the
centre embellishment was made from a
plain ring from a children's
 magazine a long time ago.

Well I think that is every little girls
dream.....so pretty!
If you would like to have a go, here
 is what Dawn used...

Ok, I'll see you tomorrow.
