Happy Day

Happy Day

Hallo There!

How're you today?  Hope
you're only being affected
by this Mad Marchness in
a good way .........  I've
always wondered why the
eggs are brought by hares
or rabbits (depending where
you are in the world).....

Angela Radford has popped
by today with a really cute
project that has nothing to
do with madness, March or
Hares ..... just Spring...

Hi all, Angela here to show you how I
used this door hanger to create a
really nice gift.

Cut out the tiny butterflies and
 attach to the hanger.

Next I applied some crinkled tissue paper
and then covered the whole thing
with a good coat of Gesso and don't
forget the sides and back.

Now you can start to add the colour,
(Fresco Finish acrylics by Paper Artsy)
I like to layer this adding the lightest colours
first, dry it and then add more colour.

When that's complete, rub over everything
gently with Treasure Gold gilding wax.

At this stage I also made some larger butterflies
using a Woodware mould and coloured those too.

To complete the hanger I used a text stamp
randomly, attached a sentiment, positioned the
 butterflies and added some gems.

It's a good idea to seal the paint when
 finished with Glaze or varnish.

Happy crafting, Angela xXx

Oh Angela, that is seriously good
Thank you very much.

I particularly like the colours - not really
in my comfort range so I think I will
have a go at this technique myself but
on a book cover .................

Quirky Birds

Quirky Birds

Hi There!

I'm here today with
Claire Jackson
and no Month Challenge
in sight. haha!

Today Claire is going
to show us how to
get some uninterrupted
crafting time:

"Take a door hanger

and paint it with two layers of
PaperArtsy snowflake paint,
drying in between

Build up the background with
opaque colours first.

I used blue oyster and china and
then lightened it with more snowflake

Add translucent colours over the top
so that your base layer still shows through.
I went with limelight and southern skies
and blended with a little snowflake in the centre

Sponge snowflake paint through the
arrows stencil and dry thoroughly

Replace the stencil so that it does
not quite match up with the white arrows
and sponge translucent colours over the top.
This will give the effect of shadows and depth.
Add some stamping in paint and when dry
highlight some areas with a white pen

Add stamping in black and ensure it’s
completely dry by heat setting it.
Add more white highlights

Stamp the bird image several times on
tissue paper and heat set.

The great thing about tissue paper is that
you can turn it over and reverse the images
so that the bird is going in the
opposite direction.

Paint the back of the images in white.

Colour the images.

I used a combination of permanent markers
for vibrancy and pencil for shading.

 Tear around the images

Cover the hanger in a layer of gel medium
a section at a time and add the tissue images.

Cover the tissue with more gel medium and
gently massage it into the tissue so that it
becomes transparent

Print out the words, cut out, decorate the edges
and adhere to the hanger.

Add shading to the edge of the hanger.
I used blueberry Gelato and blended
it with a babywipe

Now there's no excuse for anyone getting
covered in sparkle unexpectedly when
they interrupt me in the craft room!"

Rice Paper

Rice Paper

Hallo Everyone!

Loving the lighter evenings now
although there's still time for
crafting............

Louise Thomson is with us
today to start the new theme
with a useful door hanger

"Today I’ve been having a play with beautiful rice paper.
It’s so versatile, you can add it to pretty much
any alterable item to make a beautiful gift.

Start with an alterable door hanger
and give it a coat of white gesso
front and back

Next gild the edges with green gilding wax applied with a soft cloth

I chose a garden print rice paper and
selected some of my favourite parts to
start decoupaging together.

Don’t worry about having overhanging edges –
these can be tidied up once you’re happy with the arrangement.
I found little bits of foliage and flowers could be used
to soften the edges between joins.

Fix the paper down with a decoupage glue,
or alternatively use a 50/50 mix of pva and water.
Once it is really dry, sand the edges in
downward strokes to get a neat finish.
There happened to be a wodge of sandpaper
on my desk but a sanding block would be the
 ideal tool for this

Blend a selection of distress inks on to
smooth finish card.
I used bundled sage and pumice stone.

From this, die cut the lettering you require.

Paint a little fresco paint on to your door hanger in patches
where you wish to add your lettering.
I used nougat which has a lovely opaque finish
but you can still see some of the print through the paint.

Once dry, glue on the lettering.

Stencil on some more distress ink to tie the whole theme together.

Here is the finished front....

..... and the back"

Thank you Louise - such a useful way
to let the family know where to find you
