Anything Goes - Dawn Heald

Hellooooo,

Here we are again, this is the last week of
looking back at some older projects, the DT
will be back with us again next week
with some new ideas for you!

This was such an amazing project
by Dawn that I thought it should definitely
be aired again!  It would be a lovely gift
too.
Dawn says -

"This week I've used an 8 x 8 canvas board to make an underwater scene. I knew the look I
wanted to achieve and remembered my Brusho
experiments. The Brusho Thickener along with
 Brusho colours and
some cling film made this project as I envisioned it.
 The Fish Stamps are fabulous
(my two are courting young love) and
can be used in different ways other than
doodling inside the shapes. I'll be using
them again soon as I really like them. So onto how
I made this project".

Apply Grunge Paste through the Bay Leaf stencil along the bottom and random circles above with Sequin
Waste Stencil. Leave to dry as it's quick.

Position stencil back over same place as before and using
Guacamole Fresco paint and paint brush, I painted over the
Bay leaves Grunge Paste. Use a sponge and more
green Fresco Finish paints to build up the layers. Then I
painted on Decoart MixedMedia Satin finish

Next I coloured my background. First using blue
 and white Brusho
and water, I painted all over and laid cling film
 or plastic wrap over
the whole canvas, squished it around and left to dry.
I chose four blue colours of Brusho and mixed
each into a pool of Brusho Thickener.
With a large flat brush I dabbed on the colours covering
the entire canvas, laid over another piece of cling film,
pressed it around to blend colours and move
air pockets around. Then I left this to dry.

As I'd used a thick layer of Brusho Thickener this took 24
hours to dry.  I peeled off the cling film and it
 was still damp, so I
used this to carefully wipe off the colours on parts of the
stencilling then left it to completely air dry. I dotted on some
Stickles Glitter Glue in Eucalyptus and Star Dust.

Whilst this was drying I stamped the two Fish and
 doodled some
Zentangle patterns within the shapes. I coloured
with Pro Markers
and added some detail with white gel pen. I then
cut them out.

I drew some wavy sea plants, doodled and
coloured with Faber Castell crafters crayons. Gently
shape the
pieces by curving them in your hand. I added
 some bling to the Fish
by colouring clear gems with Pro Markers and
gluing on the Fish.
I glued my pieces onto the canvas with glue gel. Add some
coloured gems as treasure at the bottom of the sea.

Well, isn't that just lovely?

If you want to have a go, this is what Dawn used -

Animal magic - Rachel Snook

Happy Weekend everyone,

Gosh where are the weeks going??

Enjoy your Bank holiday weekend,
hope you are doing something special!

Don't forget to get your August Calendar
picture to the link by midnight Monday,
September is with us on Tuesday.
Goodness that means the school holidays
are nearly over!

Well, today is our last post for Animal Magic,
Rachel is here with us to show you
her project!

Paint the two large bodies of the owl on
both sides using Chalk Paint.

The body part with the ears, paint with Nougat
on both sides.

Cover one side of each of the nose sections
with Versamark Ink and coat with the
Mahogany Glitter Embossing Powder.
Use heat gun to set and repeat process if
necessary to get even coverage.

Using Versamark Ink, coverthe eyes and coat
with Aurora Viola Black Embossing Powder.
Heat set.
The colour will look black but when it catches the
light it will give a violet shine.
When cool, colour around the edges of the
eyes with black ink to cover the edges.
Using a cocktail stick and a tiny amount of
Chalk Paint add the whites to both eyes.

Paint the wooden peg with Nougat Paint and
set aside to dry.

Take the parts of the owl that will form the face
and wings, using Versamark Ink and Seasonings
Embossing Enamel, cover both wings twice to ensure
a smooth coverage.
Repeat a third time but while you are melting
the powder and it is still movable,
take a cocktail stick and feather
slightly through the enamel, you will find this
brings some of the darker colour out, thus
giving the illusion of feathers!

Leave to cool.
Add a thin coat of Gold Interference Paint
to the larger back section of the owl and to the
top section on the face.  This will highlight
the bird.  Using your finger add a little of the
paint onto the nose section.  This will add
dimensional shine to the Mahogany Embossing
Glitter.
Attach the features of the owl with Pinflair
glue or other strong adhesive.  Leave to set.
Line the peg up between the large sections of the
owls and glue. Allow the glue to dry.

Add the two top parts of the bird,
lining up as required and allow to set.
You now have an owl peg!!
Instead of a peg you could cut the owl shape
from magnetic sheet to make 2 magnets.

Wow, thank you Rachel, how nice is that??

If you want to have a go, this is what
you'll need -

So that is it for another week,

I shall be back tomorrow with our
new Weekly Challenge.
What do you think it is going to be??

Night and Day - Dawn Heald

Morning all,

It is day two of Night and Day and Dawn is here today to show
us what she has been up to.

She has made two beautiful cards in different colourways.
Don't they look different??
It is amazing what changing colours can do!

This is what Dawn says.....

"I've made two cards for my project this week.

I knew straight away I wanted to use this new Celtic Dreams Die.
There are so many ways of using this die with many techniques
and mediums that I sent myself dizzy. So I decided to go
simple and striking and using alcohol inks as its been a while
since I played with them. Just a note too, these die's
are a dream to cut. Very impressed.

So to make ....

Choose some alcohol inks and blending solution and put drops
on the applicator and create some backgrounds.
For my day card I used; Pool, Sunshine Yellow, Citrus and Gold
Mixative. For my night card I used; Indigo, Purple Twilight,
 Mermaid and Silver Mixative.
Indigo and Mermaid are two new colours and are very strong.
You don't need as much on your applicators when using with
 older colours of alcohol inks.

Choose which backgrounds you want to use.
Next using Celtic die, cut two each from white and black card.
Glue a white onto black and black onto white. Slightly offsetting
them as shown in pic. Glue to your background and cut around
 the edges.

Next add details to your top die cuts. Use markers and black pen
on the white card die cut image and Interference paints and silver
pen on the black card die cut image. Punch some tiny flowers and
colour to match your image details.
                                        Glue around the branches.

Cut three squares of card going up in size for layers to go behind
your main image. I used white card and coloured the edges with
Pro Markers. Cheaper and easier to match with your focal point.
You could use coloured card. I also coloured the front edges of
the card blank and inside so it looked like another two layers of colour.
Stick all your layers together and then onto your card blank.

Finish by embellishing with some coloured gems".

How lovely are they??

Night and Day - Neil Walker

Hellooooo,

Welcome to a new week here on the blog.

This week we are featuring the same project but in two
different colours.  As you can see below the same image can
look so different when coloured in light and then dark.
So our theme this week is night and day.

Today we start with Neil and his night and day accordion book.

I love how the same design can look so different just by changing
 your colours.

I've made a simple accordion book; one side for day and the
 other for night.

Begin by stamping and heat embossing your image onto a light
and a dark base with black embossing powder. Glue onto Tando
Creative Media Boards and trim the edges.

For my day image I've coloured with bright and cheerful tones
using Distress Markers and a blending brush filled with water.

For my Night image, which was embossed onto a black paint
spattered card, I have used DecoArt Interference paints
to add a subtle colour and shimmer.

Construct an accordion for the inside and glue to the covers.

Paint the night side of the pages with Prussian Blue and the day
pages with a pale wash of the same.

Thank you Neil, I love that image!

Neil used.....
